How Does Elizabeth Bennet Change
Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen. It is the story of 5 young girls who are trying to marry. Their mother is trying to marry them off, so they can have someone support them when the father dies. The main character is Elizabeth Bennet the second oldest child. At the end of the novel, Elizabeth Bennet marries Mr. Darcy, a character who starts out as a prejudice and class-obsessed man. However, at the end of the novel, Mr. Darcy becomes a kind, honest, and accepting man. Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy are the characters with the most change. Both Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy start out as prejudice, but later in the novel, they become more accepting people. I believe that the author Jane Austen is trying to say through the changes in Elizabeth

The mother of the 5 women Mrs. Bennet heard that a newcomer named Mr. Bingley has a large fortune and is single. Since she believes that her daughters need to get married as quickly as possible, Mrs. Bennet has her husband Mr. Bennet invite the newcomer over. The meeting with Mr. Bennet goes well, and they go to a ball in Meryton. Mr. Bingley brings his two sisters, his brother-in-law, and his friend Mr. Darcy. Mr. Bingley enjoys the ball and dances twice with Elizabeth’s older sister Jane. One of the men bring their friend Mr. Wickham with them to meet the Bennet family. Mr. Wickham is a militia man who is trying to marry rich. No one else knows this, so he is able to charm the Elizabeth and her sisters. “His appearance was greatly in his favour; he had all the best part of beauty, a fine countenance, a good figure, and very pleasing address” () Elizabeth judges him based off their first meeting. He is charming and seems like a respectable man. When she learns that Wickham and Darcy “are not on friendly terms”, Wickham tells her that “a military life is not what [he] was intended for”, but did not have the money to become a pastor. He claims that Darcy stole the money that his godfather was going to use to provide for him. Elizabeth just met Wickham and has no reason to blindly trust everything he says.
