How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Gothic Elements
I believe that the gothic element were important during the early to mid-nineteenth century. First, Edgar Allan Poe’s work was dark and can be unappealing to most people or at least to me. In “The Tell-Tale Heart” Poe uses gothic element through death or decaying. For instance, “His eyes resembled that of a vulture—a pale blue eye, with a film over it… my blood ran cold; I made up my mind to take the life of the old man.” Secondly, Washington Irving’s demonstrates the gothic elements more in my opinion. In the “Rip Van Winkle” Irving shows us the gothic elements through the setting, ineffectual hero, and the supernatural.
