How Does Disobedience Promote Social Progress
Disobedience has been involved in human society since the very beginning. To some people, disobedience is only seen as a detriment to society and progress but that’s just not true. Disobedience is a valuable human trait that promotes social progress because disobedience allows us to learn from the actions of the deviant, get results that wouldn’t be possible with obedient means, and it gives others examples of bad behavior and the consequences of acting that way. Disobedience allows us to learn from the actions of the deviant. In the mid-20th century, the Nazi regime carried out horrible crimes, or acts of disobedience, on anyone they didn't approve of. This resulted in the Holocaust and after the rest of the world learned of this they united to make sure nothing like it would happen again (the United Nations). This displays social progress because before the Holocaust all other attempts to unify the nations of the world had failed. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold murdered their classmates and students at Columbine High School. Civil Rights for Minorities wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the disobedient acts of activists. These protests were definitely acts of disobedience because the majority of society, racist whites, did not want equal rights with other races. However, the protests were for the purpose of social progress in the form of equality. Another example is our war with Japan during WWII. If we never dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the war with Japan would’ve never ended. The rest of the World seen this as a horrible, it was indiscriminate killing of thousands of innocent people. But it still got results which was the end of the war against
