Does the increase of cell phone usage have a negative impact on how people behave in public? Most people get so bent out of shape when they see someone on a cell phone especially while driving. Some people do not care either way because they just keep to themselves. It does have a negative impact on people because it distracts people while driving, people do not pay attention where they walk while on their phone, and how people view other people on cell phones. Cell phones are a big distraction to people while driving. Most people concentrate more on their cell phone then on the road itself. In America the accident rate has gone up a big percentage because people are so worried about who is calling or texting them. If people just slowed down and focus on their diving more they would not get pulled over as much. To explain, if people did not worry about who is on face book, calling them, or texting them there would be less people getting hurt by distracted drivers. People just need to be more aware of the road, and people need to watch where they are walking while on their cell phone.

Most people do cross the street when they are supposed to. They are so busy with face book or phone calls that they do not notice the car that is about to hit them. These people walking get mad at the person that hit them and want to sue them, but clearly it is the walkers fault. Some people just need to wake up because clearly they are not able to do two things at once. For instance, if people just watch what they are doing it would make it less likely for them to get hit by a car or hurt. As a society people have to be aware of their surroundings, and it might stop how people view others on cell

Cell phones draw a driver 's attention away from traffic, road conditions and vehicle operation. Some studies have shown this may increase the likelihood of an accident by four times the normal rate. A large part of this distraction involves the need to physically handle the phone. This may cause the driver to remove their hands from the wheel or their eyes from the road. While listening to the person speaking or while answering a text the driver becomes less likely to hear another driver 's horn or an emergency siren. When thoughts are focused on the conversation, especially if it is upsetting they are less focused on driving. This leads to multitasking.…

Using a cell phone while driving can cause the driver to take their eye off the road and cause them to think about what’s going on with their cell phone. When a phone call comes through on the driver’s cell phone, this distracts them from paying attention to the road. This is a major cause of accidents and deaths on the road. This also is putting drivers life in danger. While drivers may think they can handle talking on the phone they tend to miss visual and audio clues to avoid crashes. For example, there could be a crash on the highway. Drivers pick up their cell phone to call spouse or a friend to inform them of the trouble car crash. In the split second you looked down to dial the number you didn’t see the sign that said “right lane closed.” You then look up and realize that you are now in the right lane were the accident occurred. Before you could slow down or even stop you run into the back of a car that was just in an accident. Now because you picked up your cell phone instead of consternating on the road you put yourself in a situation you did not have to be in. This is just a few reasons why concentration on the road is so critical to prevent accidents.…

Even though a lot of places in the United States are completely illegal to use the cellphone while a person is driving, there is still a lot of states in US where this rule is not applied, and it has been very dangerous for the drivers. Most of young people between the ages of sixteen and seventeen specially, text while driving, making them pay more attention on their phones than the road, which is not a mature attitude. Most of young drivers do not know how bad a car accident could be until they get involved into one. If a person is using the cellphone while driving, it just shows that the person is giving more attention to a electronic device, than paying attention on the street while conducting a heavy and big vehicle on movement, eventually causing an accident most of the times.…

The lives of innocent people are being taken every day due to a simple distraction. Car crashes are four times more common to take place while the driver is on their mobile device over any other causes. Most people don’t seem to realize how careless they can be while driving a car. Talking on a cell phone is not as dangerous as texting these days. While talking on the phone, it is easier to still keep focused on the road in front of the driver. When they engage in a text message, it’s not possible to look in both directions at once; therefore all of their focus goes straight to the screen of the cell phone. It’s hard for all drivers, especially teenagers, to put down the cell phone and put their hands on the wheel, which results in many car crashes.…

According to the New York Times, using a phone while operating a vehicle puts drivers at four times the risk of crashing as other drivers. The likelihood that the crash would happen is the same as someone with a .08 percent blood alcohol level (where drivers are considered to be intoxicated) (Richtel 1). A 2003 Harvard study estimated that 330,000 car accidents occurred in the United States with moderate and severe injuries among the victims as a result of cell phone use. Another 2,600 cell phone related accidents resulted in a death (Richtel 1). The problem is that most drivers over estimate their ability to multi-task. Their consciousness is quickly divided as soon as their attention is focused on things other than the road.…

Drivers are also twenty three times more likely to be involved in a car accident if they are texting. Also, “one-in-five drivers have confessed to surfing the web [or utilizing a mobile] device while driving.” (TextingandDrivingsaftey.com) “Driving while using a cell phone reduces the amount of brain activity associated with driving by thirty-seven percent.” (Carnegie, Mellon) This leads to any distracted driver by cellphone to be an extremely high risk when they are on the road. Even though “seventy-seven percent of young adults are... confident that they can safely text while driving,” the increased amounts of car wrecks due to being distracted by a mobile phone has increased exponentially since the inception of the first widespread smartphone in…

The driver is not the only one affected. If the distracted driver hits someone, then the other person is affected as well. According to McFeatters, “The deaths of twenty five people and injuries to 135 others in a 2008 California train crash was attributed to cell-phone use.” This means that thousands of Americans are suffering injuries and deaths due to irresponsible drivers who decide to make phone call or text while driving. The use of cell phones on the road is not worth the risk of someone’s life. For example, about six months ago, I was driving on the highway no more than twenty five miles per hour. While I was driving I received a text message. I looked down for a couple of seconds to answer. When I looked up again, I did not see the truck that was in front of me had totally stopped. The next thing I knew I had crashed my car. Luckily, nothing happened to me, but my car was a total loss. According to Rachtel, “Studies show that motorists who send or receive a text message have a tendency to take their eyes off the road for five seconds to do so. That is enough time for their car to travel more than the length of a football field at highway speeds.” Unfortunately, many young people think that while driving answering a call or text would not make a difference, but what they do not realize is that it only takes couple of seconds for an accident to occur. This involves the lives of innocent…

A cell phone is an enormous distraction. It takes a while for new drivers to get used to paying attention to every detail, so throwing a cell phone into the mix would potentially cause a disaster. With that being said, even someone who's been driving for 30 years should not use a cell phone, as it would captivate their attention to the same extent. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would help drivers focus on all of the things that they should be focusing on, resulting in safer driving overall. Using a hand-held device is one of the highest causes for vehicle crashes. The other causes are speeding and not paying attention to the road; Both can be a result of using a hand-held device. Every year, the number of vehicle-related…
