How Did Winston Churchill Influence The Battle Of Gallipoli
Winston Churchill was a famous British leader during World War One and World War Two. He influenced many with his amazing speeches. He was first noticed in WWI when he escaped a South African P.O.W. camp after being captured as a war reporter. Churchill became First Lord of Admiralty in 1911 after turning away from politics. He began to notice Germany was getting more restless and modernized the Royal Navy air Service. He was very well known for his speeches. Yet in 1915 he sacrificed most of his power for the terrible failure that he suggested, the battle of Gallipoli. It was between the Turkish and the allies. During the battle 58’000 allies were killed. Feeling ashamed, Churchill abandoned his title for the First Lord of Admiralty.

    The allies even though they were surrounded by the German army still fought back and resisted even after the Belgian army surrendered (May 28). The Germans bombed and destroyed most of Dunkirk and its surrounding areas as they were kept a distance by the allies who had set a perimeter that slightly kept falling back until they got to Dunkirk where they were evacuated. Many allied troops died keeping the Germans out of Dunkirk but all these sacrifices helped save the life of approximately 338,000 men all these troops were saved in the span of 11 days, the Germans may have taken over Dunkirk but many allied troops were able to live another day and the evacuation also saved the British many soldiers who were able to fight another day. The battle of Dunkirk was important in WW2 because had the Germans sealed off and killed all those troops that were evacuated the whole momentum of the western front war would have gone to Germany. The Dunkirk evacuations moralized the British army as they didn’t suffer major defeat and were able to save the life’s of a lot of men.     Winston Churchill, the son of Lord Randolph Churchill, became an officer in the 4th cavalry in 1894. Between 1895 and 1899 he served in Cuba, India and South Africa as a reporter.
