How Did The President Roosevelt Lead To The Election Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt?
By 1932, The Great Depression took over most of America. Countless Americans were out of work and had nothing to eat as a result of the “spend 3, make 3” mentality of the depression. Many of the citizens, expecting help from President Herbert Hoover received nothing, resulting in the public’s critical view of him. America needed their government to expand and help them get out of the depression. Consequently, the country was ready for a new perspective and leadership to try and usher them out of the depression, leading to the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1932. Roosevelt became the first Democrat elected in sixteen years, with Republicans such as Hoover dominating the years before the depression struck, further depicting America’s …show more content…
Clearly, the Platt Amendment failed to adhere to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s viewpoints he had at the Montevideo Conference, which strictly prohibited a nation’s right to interfere with another nation’s desire to enter treaties. As a result of his views, more exceptionalist and ethical in comparison to the Platt Amendment, Roosevelt made the executive decision to repeal the amendment. This action demonstrated Roosevelt’s proactivity and drive to get things done, further proving how his victory led to the expansion of foreign policy in the …show more content…
The New Deal was a set of programs which were created in order to boost America out of The Great Depression. Many of these programs were social programs, such as the National Youth Administration (NYA) and Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The National Youth Administration, according to The Eleanor Roosevelt Papers Project, was an “executive order” signed by Roosevelt in 1935, with a purpose of addressing “the problem of unemployment” among the youth during the depression. The National Youth Administration acts as a social program since it deals with the social issue of working as well as childcare, as the act mainly pertains to children of ages 16-25. During 1935, in the midst of the depression, unemployment was at a high due to the lack of jobs available, especially for the children. However, as a result of Roosevelt’s social programs, not only did he provide opportunities for jobs as well as create them, but he expanded his federal government as well, as the NYA was just one of the countless social programs put in place during the depression with the New Deal. Another one of the programs the New Deal implemented was the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The TVA was created as a social program to provide industrial development in the Southeastern United States
