How Did Pi Survive
On February 14th 1978, a teenage boy named Piscine Molitor Patel was found at the coast of Mexico. He survived 227 days in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Pi and his family were moving from India to Canada. While they were on their way the Japanese ship named Tsimtsum sank due to engine failures.
Pi describes that after the sinking of the cargo ship occurred he found himself swimming in the Pacific Ocean. He was swimming toward the lifeboat. Four people survived Pi’s mother, the French cook, the sailor and Pi. The sailor had broken his leg when he jumped off the ship and into the lifeboat. He’s your own kind” (page 342). Pi’s mother was mad and disgusted. As days past they all started to talk a little and get along. The cook told the Patel’s that there was an island coming up, but he lied. When Pi and his mother took a rest, the cook stole their food. The cook killed Pi’s mother because Pi could not hold onto the turtle they were trying to catch for food. He hit Pi, Pi’s mother hit him, he hit her back and they started to fight. “My mother was fighting an adult man. He was mean and muscular.
