Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist. He would be involved in boycotts and marches to help bring an end to racism. In 1957, he organized the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The SCLC would organize marches, demonstrations, and boycotts to get attention from segregated businesses. While in jail in 1963, he wrote a letter in which he stated that people had the responsibility to disobey unfair laws. Later that same year, he organized a march in Washington. He made his famous ''I have a dream'' speech in front of 200,000 people. King started focusing on the North where African Americans were poor and discriminated. Not long after, he was assacinated.
