Helen Adams Keller was an American author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was born with good health, but at the age of 19 months, she had a sudden fever that she became blind and deaf. When she was seven years old, a teacher Anne came to live with her family, she taught Helen how to talk with fingers. Then Anne taught her to use braille system for reading. This enabled her to communicate with people and understand them. She was quick to understand and smart and was able to graduate from college and traveled to several countries to raise money for the purpose of building schools for the blind.
