How Did Harry S. Truman Create Tension
Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States. He was born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. Truman was the oldest of his two siblings. He graduated high school in 1901 and then became a bank clerk until 1906. He moved back to his family farm to assist his father in his old age. After his dad died in 1914, he became the owner of his father's farm. Truman ended up marrying a childhood friend, Elizabeth Wallace, and had one child, Margaret Truman. Truman started his political career in 1922, becoming the county judge. He lost the reelection in 1924 but proceeded to win presiding judge in 1926. His political life seemed to halt in 1936, but again resumed in 1944 running for democratic vice president with Franklin D. Roosevelt. Truman

Truman won by a 49% to 45% margin and in his surprising victory decided to create a change when he became president. He modified the prior “New Deal” with his version of the “Fair Deal.” He created more public housing, increased minimum wage, encouraged and helped spread education, protection against natural civil rights, and created national health insurance. Sadly, all this really did was unintentionally create tension that eventually started the Cold War. During this time though, Chinese Communists had managed to take control of the mainland and the Soviet Union managed to create their own nuclear bombs. In response, NATO was formed and Truman gave word to start work on a more powerful bomb called the hydrogen bomb, which would hopefully keep their firepower and arms at more of an advantage to stay on top of the Soviet Union. Soviet China and North Korea then started racing to create more powerful weapons, which could have created worldwide havoc. Eventually, North Korea attempted to force South Korea into a communist state, starting the Korean War. Truman was against this, and, without permission from Congress, he sent troops led by General Douglass McArthur to stop this
