How Did Eberhard Anheuser Become Interbrew?
Eberhard Anheuser was the part owner of the Bavarian Brewery in St. Louis which began operations in 1852. He had bought out the other owners, and around 1860 changed the name to E. Anheuser & Co. In 1861, Adolphus Busch married Mr. Anheuser’s daughter Lilly. Mr. Busch later bought half of the company from his father-in-law. In 1879, the company was renamed the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association. From 1920 to 1933, the company survived Prohibition by marketing soft drinks, truck bodies, ice cream and a non-alcoholic cereal beverage called Bevo.
In 1987, the two largest breweries in Belgium, Artois and Piedboeuf, merged to become Interbrew. In 1995, Interbrew acquired the Labatt Brewing Company of Canada. In 2002 they acquired Brauerei
