In the early stage of Chinese writing, China used bones and turtle shells to predict the future. First, someone would grab a turtle shell or bones and begin to write. Metal tools or ink filled brushes would be used to write. Second, the Chinese would scribble a drawing of something. This could be anything, it could be who will win a war to who is the fastest in the tribe. Third, they would heat said shell or bone. They would wait until the bone or turtle shell began to crack. Finally, judging by the crack on the bone or turtle shell would determine who would win the war or who is the fastest in the clan.
