Computer Genius Imagine the world without electronics. Our world would not be the same world as we know it today. Thanks to Bill Gates we have all of these modern day luxuries. Bill Gates changed the world with his company Microsoft. He introduced the world to software that anyone could use. He was the richest man in the world, and used his wealth to make a change that would impact the world. Gates left a legacy as the computer genius that everyone wished to be. Then in 1967 Gates parents decided he needed a challenge in school since he got bored very easily. In 1967 they sent him to Lakeside School an all boys private school.(Dickinson 13) It was here in 8th grade his life changed forever, when he was first introduced to computers. By age 13 he learned how program computers. This year was a big year for Gates. He met Paul Allen another computer enthusiast. Paul and Gates both knew how to use software but the school started charging fees to use computers so they had to figure out a way to make money (biography.com). At age 15 Gates and friend Paul Allen set up a software company. They now could use the computer no problem, but people were starting to realize Gates talent. First Gates is the founder of the software company, Microsoft. In April 4, 1975 (Harrison) Microsoft was first set up with Paul Allen. Little did they know this company would change their lives forever. In the little time of 8 years, by 1983 30% of the worlds computers were running on microsoft's software. Two years later Microsoft introduced Windows which made Microsoft more popular than ever. Unfortunately Microsoft hit a low when it was filed an anti lawsuit in 1988. This year they were also asked by IBM (international business machines) to develop a software for its first PC. This was a huge step for microsoft making it known to the world. In 1986 microsoft became a public company and shares went by very fast. Gates was the face of microsoft and was known around the world. From 1975 to 2000 gates served as Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft. (Ferrell 67) Microsoft received 5 awards from the Software publishers association, with Gates being the CEO. Microsoft was dominating the software industry, but in 2006 microsoft started to compete with Apple. They came out with Zune against the Ipod. (Hariss 83) Gates did not have enough time to deal with all the problems going on Microsoft, and deal with personal life anymore, so June 27, 2008 Gates left Microsoft.
