How can alternative sources of energy be harnessed effectively?
How can alternative sources of energy be harnessed effectively?

With the development of economy and society, existing energy sources have been hard to meet the increasing market demands. due to the lack of fossil fuels and environmental problems, an increasing number of people pay more attention to alternative energies because they are directly related to the future economic and social development. Therefore, this essay will discuss how to harness alternative sources of energy effectively, with a particular focus on solar energy.

Solar energy is one the alternative energy source that is used most widely across the globe. About 70% of the light that hit the earth gets reflected back to space and only the remaining 30% light is enough to meet up our needs for years to come. So, solar energy is the energy that we get from the sun. We get enough energy from the sun that it could meet up our power demands, if only we could harness it properly. In order to harness solar energy effectively, it is important to use advance technology to improve the efficiency of using solar energy. Basically there are two ways.

The first way is solar thermal, which is also known as solar water heating. In this process, solar energy is used directly to generate heat. Solar panels are used to trap the heat from the sun and are used to heat water in the glass panels. Glass panels are painted black so that they absorb maximum energy from the sun, then water is pumped through these pipes. These panels are positioned in such a way to maximize the absorption of heat throughout the day and can help in reducing the electricity bills. Another approach to harness solar energy is photovoltaic Cells. This method converts the sun’s energy into electricity. These cells are silicon based pieces of materials that absorb the sun’s light. When the sunlight enters the cells, it causes the electrons to move. These electrons move in a certain direction which is known as current. This electricity is

Solar thermal electric generation is a means of producing electricity in which the sun's energy is concentrated using mirrors or lenses onto a fluid-filled pipe; the heated fluid is used to generate electricity. They often have a backup which is natural gas to generate electricity at night and during cloudy days when solar power isn't operating.…

Energy is an important factor in todays society, it is neccesary to power business, manufacturing and the transportation of goods and services all around the world. Solar powered energy is energy from the sun. This energy can be conerted into different energy like heat and electricity. Heat can be used to heat water or heat spaces, for example heating for houses, buildings or even swimming pools. Solar energy can be converted in two ways, by Photovoltaic or “solar cells” which change sunlight directly into electricity or by concentrating solar power plants which generate electricity by using heat from solar thermal collectors. Coal powered energy has played an important role in the advancement of civilization and will continue to be a major fuel source for at least the next quarter century. It is used primarly to produce electricty and heat through a dirty process which involves mining and combustion of the fuel. The two most common types of coal mining used today are surface mining and underground mining. In the long run, solar energy has greater potential than coal powered energy.…

Despite what any individual’s concerns are regarding energy, it has been generally accepted that the finite source generating the majority of our electricity is depleting at alarming rates. We need to find alternative sources for energy production. The most obvious and abundant source available is the sun. Advances in technology have enabled us to harvest the solar radiation which has been conducting the cycle of life for millions of years. There are two main categories when it comes to solar power, passive and active. The passive solar systems integrate the sun’s energy to heat living spaces and/or water in a building. These system are very simple consisting few moving parts, require negligible maintenance and no mechanical components (Passive Solar Design). Passive…

Most of the energy we use is from the sun. This energy from the sun is called solar energy, plants convert it into energy, and animals eat plants and convert that into energy. Humans eat plants and animals and convert those into energy; humans also use solar energy to create electricity. How exactly then is the sun’s energy converted into a sustainable energy source? One process is photosynthesis.…

Solar energy is one of the most widely used energy resources throughout the world solar energy is the most promising renewable energy resources. It is widely available and easy for any one to use it is practical for individual use to power a single home or for a company facility such as bright sources solar facility in the Mojave Desert California. The facility can produce up to 377 megawatt. It uses three towers with mirrors surrounded by solar panels to reflect the light on to the solar panels to harness the suns energy. The benefits of solar much more out weigh the negatives solar can save billions of trillions of dollars for nations. The reliability of solar energy is great rising and setting of the sun is consistent while cloudy days are less predictable there are more than enough sunny days to power homes. “She…

According to records, human use of solar energy has 3,000 years of history. Solar power as an energy source and make use of only 300 years of history. Real solar as "the recent much-needed additional energy," "the basis for the future energy mix," is a recent thing. Since the 70s of the 20th century, solar energy technology advances, solar energy with each passing day. The history of modern solar energy engineer from France Solomon and Germany 1615 Cox invented the world 's first solar-powered engines counting. The invention is a use of solar energy for heating the air to expand power and water pumping machines. In the years between 1615 to 1900, the world has developed into more than one solar power plant and some other solar devices. Almost all of these power plants collect the sun by concentrating mode, engine power is not, working fluid is mainly water vapor, expensive, little practical value, the majority of personal research and manufacturing of solar enthusiasts. 100 years of the 20th century, the history of solar energy technology can be generally divided into seven phases, the following description separately.…

One of the advantages of using solar power in building design is that it can help in saving energy. According to Russel (2009), solar energy provides electricity generation by direct use of it heat or photovoltaic mechanism (Solar Cell). The solar energy can be used for many things, such as heating our home, making hot water and even for cooking dishes. Furthermore, this solar power will always available every day anywhere the sun shines. The solar cell will absorb sunlight and generate electricity to use. Therefore, by using the solar power, we can save the energy and it is also free. Solar energy does not only used to generate electricity, it can also be distributed in the form of heat. A house can be built and designed to collect and store the solar power an use it to heat the house by distributing the heat. Solar power system also consists of battery backup systems. During the absence of sunlight the battery can store electric energy absorbed by the solar cell (Peter, 2007). Although there is no…

Solar Energy is one of the many renewable sources that is produced by the sun in the form of light and heat. It is one of the most important non-conventional sources of energy due to the fact that its free and we have plenty of it. Humans have been using it since ancient times. Solar energy can be use two ways, we can convert it into heat energy or it can converted into electricity. It has had a rapid growth in recent years, accounting for less than one percent of electricity used in the United States today. The market exceeds sales of 29 billion dollars and 1.6 billion of that money goes to the United States alone with California leading the way.…
