House Of The Scorpion Analysis
Have you been treated badly because you are different from other people? The House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, is about a boy, Matt, who gets treated differently because he is a clone. In my opinion, the theme is that don’t treat other people badly because they are different compared to you. Evidence from the book has Rosa treating Matt like an animal, the priest not allowing Matt in church because he’s a clone, and the gardeners building barriers and filling sawdust in his cell. Furthermore, there will be details explaining the evidence and it will be supporting the theme. The first piece of evidence from the book said that Matt had to lie on the cement floor without any covers, pillows, or a bed. The floor in the cell that Matt slept on was covered in cement. The farmers filled the cell with sawdust until it was tall as the door cell. No room in a person’s life should have too much dust or dirt in their house, unless they never clean up. Also, they built a tall barrier as tall as his waist so he could be slowed down if he ever tried to escape. They kept him in a cell like a wild animal. Nobody should ever be kept …show more content…
Matt had to use the newspapers in the corner since Rosa took away the waste bucket. Nobody should use newspapers in the corner, unless it is an animal. Rosa thinks Matt is an animal, that’s why Rosa took away the waste bucket and told the gardener to fill the room with sawdust. When Rosa took away the waste bucket, she said that’s what dogs do; which is saying that Matt is a dog. He felt dirty and ashamed while using the newspapers in the corner. Nobody should feel ashamed or dirty using the restroom. Also, Matt usually gets dragged by the hair. He feels pain as well. Rosa just doesn’t care since Matt is a clone.
