Hospice Nurse Roles
You make a good point, as Jacylyn pointed out that hospice nurse is not only dealing with a patient but also family.
One of the roles of hospice nurse is to address end of life issues: to guide, support and educate patients and families (Karnes, 2013). Sometimes during the process, a conflict occurred between family members. Therefore, all members of hospice team such as hospice nurse, hospice medical social worker, and spiritual counselors may work together to address this conflict and to promote coping strategies for families (Hospice Patients Alliance, n.d).
I guess if we have to face with the family and we know we cannot talk to them, we can always ask the hospice team to talk to them or maybe even our coworkers can help.
