Horsehead Case
In 1848, two companies were created to exploit iron and zinc deposits at Franklin and Sterling Hill in Sussex County, New Jersey. One company was ‘Sussex Zinc and Copper Mining and Manufacturing’ the other ‘New Jersey Exploration and Mining Company’. These companies were established for the purpose of mining zinc and iron respectively. Since the founding members were same for both these companies, they merged it to form ‘New Jersey Zinc Corporation’. Horsehead was one the state symbols of New Jersey, the company adopted Horsehead as its logo.
