Fairy tales are not only popular in children but also appeal to adults because they always provide people with good wishes. For hundreds of years, fairy tales have become a very important part of children’s literature. As we learn more about fairy tales, we found out that there are several conventions of the fairy tales, such as a specific setting to remove the readers from the real world; a hero or heroine has a dangerous adventure; with a theme of maturation. I would like to present you my own fairy tale based on some conventions of fairy tale, called Lily and the God of the river.…

The Grimm Brothers describe Little Red Cap forcing the wolf “down the roof” with the smell of sausage, and consequentially drowning in the trough (Tatar 16). “Little Dread Riding Hood” portrays that heroic scene by designing a presumably older little red riding hood riding a wolf as though it was a horse. This domestication, or possibly dead body, of the wolf into a play toy demonstrations how little red riding hood matures, and is able to defend herself against the wolf rather than relying on someone else, the huntsman, to save…

A fractured fairytale is a fairy or folk tale that has been modified in such a way as to make us laugh at an unexpected characterization, plot development or contrary point of view. Ruby Moon falls into this category through the various archetypes played by the two actors. By taking these archetypes and giving them humourous undertones, the archetypes can be seen as the different faces of Ray and Sylvie. It also threatens something deeply primal within each of us, and begs the question- how well do we really know our neighbours, or even the people living under our very own…

    Into The Beanstalk

Into the Woods (1987) links several familiar family fairy tale stories, crossing them over with one new story which is what glues the whole musical together, instead of having separate fairy tales on their own. ‘The new story endeavours to carry those tales into an adult realm without stripping their archetypal characters of their (initially) child-based sensibilities.’(Knapp, 2009) An audience ember however may wonder when the shows ‘once upon a time’ basis will soon enough be compromised by its adult themes. Three stories are what initiate the action, one is Cinderella, another Jack and the Beanstalk and the last one being the authors invention. A story about The Baker and his Wife who live next door to the Witch, the couple find themselves…

Fairytales: when someone says that word, the first thing that might come up in your mind is probably kid’s reading Cinderella. Fairytales’ simplicity and accuracy in delivering a moral to young kids and adults is wonderful. We’d give an adult a eerie look if we caught them reading a kids book on the train to themselves. The reason behind our thought is cause it’s a kids book why would an adult read it but behind all this is the difference of interpreting stories for adults and children. Stories like Juniper Tree, Snow White, and Little Red Cap include hidden messages through violence and imagery and dialogue. Fairy tales teach children how to grasp the meaning and power behind storytelling. In this paper I will discuss the vast ways in which a child and adult interpret fairytales. Its…

When a person thinks about Bamboozled, many don’t have a meaning for it or just guess what it might mean. The definition of Bamboozled means fool or cheat. Now it’s confusing to get a sense of concept when think of what the movie Bamboozled is going to be about. The movie is base of a character name Pierre Delacroix that works in a TV network and hires two individual men to start in a show that reflects how African Americans “are.” Delacroix wanted to bamboozle the audience but he had also bamboozled the two men. He wanted to prove that African Americans are not people just of humor but they are real individuals that the same as everybody else. Delacroix was also bamboozled; Delacroix wrote the screenplay but later was changed by his boss who wanted more humor and “more black.” At first that was Delacroix plan to go with the others but later on the movie he lost himself by going along with the TV show. Delacroix was bamboozling himself the whole time, he wanted to change but he becoming famous, a known writer was more important to him. Letting the TV show go on let the audience to be bamboozled; they were putting on a black make-up to represent that they are the n-word. Leading this example of the TV show let other African Americans like the Mau Maus that won’t stand up for that show and lead for violence. They kidnapped the main star “Mantan” and decided to kill him. Later Delacroix was also killed but not by the Mau Maus but by his assistant Solan Hopkins. She was also bamboozled by Delacroix thinking the TV show will turn around from the racist jokes and racist acts. In movie Bamboozled most characters were bamboozled id different ways. Even though they didn’t though they were being bamboozled but bamboozling others. The significance of the title did represent the meaning of the movie, but a person has to watch the movie first until you get the meaning of the title.…

Fairytales. When we hear or see that calming word, we automatically think of beautiful expensive ball gowns, charming handsome Princes, pumpkins turning into carriages, and the infamous ending of true loves first kiss. When growing up, many of us had these wonderful tales read to us before bed or at school with all of our friends. Fairytales, having been around for centuries, sends all kinds of important moral messages from being a child to facing the ‘beautiful’ world of adulthood. Growing up and being placed in the adult world, we come to terms that fairytales aren’t the classic stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Briar Rose, or Cinderella that we all know and love, its much more than that. We are surrounded by Fairytales, almost as if they…

So like I was telling you about this riding hood. Anyway, I was talking to little red riding hood, and she told me that she was taking some food and wine to her sick grandma. I felt pretty hungry as soon as she said that. I hadn’t eaten in a long time, since yesterday, but it seemed like fifty years ago. I normally don’t eat humans, but her grandma just made my stomach grumble. I didn’t want to eat her grandma in front of her, so all of a sudden I thought of something that helped make me distract little red riding hood. I suddenly told her to pick some flowers for her grandma, and started running.…

Fairy tales picture a world filled with magic, love and the triumph of the good over the evil. Fairy tales are a window to other worlds where the wildest dreams can come true and the hero always lives happily ever after preferably paired with his loved one. Although some people argue that fairy tales are full of stereotypes, filled with frightening monsters and promote racism and sexism I believe that they are wrong because fairy tales provide valuable moral lessons to children, teach them other countries' cultures promote the imagination and the cognitive development and therefore they should be read to young children.…
