Honoring a Man of God
Honoring a “Man of God”
Genesis 12:1-3,
"Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

I. What does it mean “Man of God” / who is a “Man of God”
“Man of God” is the description given to a man that follows God in every way, who obeys His commands with joy, who does not live for the things of this life but for the things of eternity, who willingly serves his God in giving freely of all his resources yet gladly suffers as a consequence of his faith.
1 Timothy 3:2-5
2 Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full[a] respect. 5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) 1. does not swindle or defraud his employer by turning up late for work or spending an hour on the internet during work hours. 2. He doesn’t gossip or slander. 3. he keeps his mind and heart pure by guarding his eyes and ears from the filth of the world 4. He is the spiritual leader of his family. 5. He does everything opposite to what the world does or approves of. 6. He goes “against the grain” of society because he knows these things displease God. 7. He is a listener to other people’s problem and does not judge.
Or can be sum up with the bible verse:
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God

That God isn’t even fathomable by our human brains, and equating the Almighty as human is not right. The church I grew up in said that God is a Supreme Being that we cant comprehend and if we anthropomorphize God, we are bringing Him down to our level of human. The people of the Vineyard frequently speak of God like He is just a guy they hang out with. Giving God human characteristics of walking with them or consuming coffee is the exact act of making God humanlike. The author talks about them having to develop a relationship with God saying, “God does indeed become more person-like, the difference between knowing God and knowing persons will become more marked.” (71). Though they insure that the difference will become clearer, it doesn’t seem so for those described in the book. For a church like the Vineyard that prides themselves in their holiness, it is odd they would dismiss this major act of disrespect against their…
