Part A:
Comparison and contrast is to show the similarities and differences between two or more things.
5 Strategies
• Subject by subject comparison- a caparison that involves one subject in detail and discusses the next subject in detail.
• Point by point comparison-Comparing a point of one subject with the point of another subject.
• Parallelism- use of matching nouns, verbs, phrases, or clauses to represent similar ideas. Often used in comparison and contrast essays
• Structure- an essay that insists of a introduction, several body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
• Transitions- Words or expressions the link two pieces of writing to one another.
Respond to Maria’s essay Maria’s essay did a very good job of comparing and contrasting of two web sites. Maria use of point by point comparison really helped in the comparison between the two websites. Each paragraph specifically talks about one point and the following paragraph would be another point comparing to the one before it. It really helped tie the whole essay together in a simple way for the reader to understand and grasp all her points. Maria ultimately wrote an effective essay that gave a detailed comparison on two different websites.
Part B:
1. I don’t think it would have. This is a topic that most people would find interesting since most people have some sort of social media. The use of a question as the thesis really allows the reader to reflect on it and think on their opinion on the topic. This leads the readers to read on. To find out if their opinion is right or wrong.
2. Wright uses subject by subject comparison to compare oral culture and social medias Using subject by subject allowed Wright to hit different points that help the reader be more informed on the topic.
3. Wright uses a lot of quote at the end of most paragraphs. I don’t think it is as effective as using transition word or phrases. By using transition sentences (words and phrases), Wright would be able to tie the whole
