Homework-"Such a Frustration"
Homework-“Such a Frustration”

Have you ever wondered why kids come home so stressed and frustrated? Well that’s pretty much what you are going to read about in this essay. Both children and parents SHOULD pay close attention because this will be helpful for you in the future.

For instance from the article “Is Too Much Homework Bad for Kids’ Health” by Sandra Levy, it talks about how students who spend way too much time on homework have more stress and health problems. According to this article the study that was done, more than two hours of homework a night can be counterproductive. Researchers studied 4,317 students from 10 high-performing high schools in higher-middle-class California, according to this study the students there complete a total average of just about 3.1 hors of homework each and every night. According to Pope in this article “The findings address how current homework practices in privileged, high-performing school sustain students’ advantage in competitive climates yet hinder learning, full engagement and well-being”. To most students a lot of homework is pointless homework. For example the researchers found that spending too much time on homework meant that students were not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills. A very important point in this article was that sleep is important too. Reason saying this is that according to the researchers, no matter how much a student studies each day, if that students sacrifices sleep time to study more than normal, then she or he will more likely to have more trouble understanding material taught in class and struggle more on a assignment or text on the next day.

According to the article “Study Finds Too Much Homework Bad for Students” by Rachel Ryan, it talks about how when it all comes down to teens and homework, more isn’t necessarily better. In this article Robert Tai said that “The more time students spend on homework, its not clear that they are

Since Roberto Nevilis introduced it to the world as a punishment in 1905, there have been many arguments to whether or not homework should be required. What initially started as punishment for kids who messed around in class has become a mandatory task that all students are required to do daily. I’m here to end that, I intend to show you that students should not be required to complete homework for a grade. Homework consumes too much time and leaves no space for extracurricular activities and causes health problems. On top of that, many students don’t even have the resources required to complete the homework. Despite these things, homework is still a graded assignment that if failed to complete, can drastically bring down a student's grade.…

Many teachers defend large amounts of homework, claiming that it helps prepare students for a world that is becoming increasingly competitive. However, Dr. Kralovec, author of The End of Homework argues that doing homework during high school has little or no effect on successful study skills of students in college. College students have only a few hours of class a week and lots of daytime hours in which to study. She says the college schedule is nowhere as grueling as in high school. In addition, the average adult does not return home from the office with three or more hours of work to complete (Kralovec).…

In this paper I will argue the reasons why I am against home assignments for the early levels of elementary schools. Although homework can have some positive effects for students in the upper grade levels such as, practicing out of school material and learning the responsibility of time management by turning homework in on time. I believe that homework should be removed from students at the Prek-2nd grade level. Providing homework to students, particularly at the Prek-2nd grade level in American can be faulty. I will present examples of the negative results homework has on children such as: stress (mental health, and physical well-being). Other factors include how the amount of time spent on homework can be critical to young…

Since I was in Kindergarten, I have had homework. I can honestly say that it has not helped me a tremendous amount, but it was crucial that I had at least a few homework assignments over the week. I currently nanny a second grader, Langley and a forth grader, Tanner. Every evening when they get off the bus Langley complains about how much homework she has and then Tanner excitedly states that he has none. This is confusing to me because I do not understand why a second grader has about four assignments a night and the forth grader never brings any homework home except to study for a test. Does it just depend on the teacher you have? I believe that there can…

    Too Much Homework

I decided to do my project on the amount of homework students receive and how it is affecting their interpersonal relationships. Most of us have siblings, relatives or kids in grade school and can relate to this issue. We can all agree that they generally receive too much homework and it is causing them a lot of stress. Homework can be both good and bad. Some homework help reinforce the material already covered in class room while others are just worksheets and drill work. The truth is that students usually receive “busy work” more often than actually helpful homework. It takes up so much of their time that they practically have no time to spend with their family. Sometimes, homework gets so hard that the parents get involved. This can create a lot of stress on families. We all know that some projects elementary and middle school students receive usually cannot be done without a considerable amount of help from their parents. According to Mr. Baker, a researcher and professor of education and sociology, “increasing homework loads is likely to aggravate tensions within the family, thereby generating more inequality and eroding the quality of overall education”. I don’t think it is worth it to have so much stress and tension in the family in the name of homework.…

Many Americans tend to believe that homework is something to be concerned about in a student’s education but many teachers, parents and even administrators will argue with this statement. Why even acknowledge this statement you ask? Because the main reason is that homework is becoming a growing issue and therefore it causes a student to see it as a negative way rather than thinking it would benefit them. In a student’s perspective they would say “why do homework if it isn’t graded as an assignment.” this is referring to the fact that students feel as if homework wasn’t a requirement or an obligation, parents are expecting it constantly, and lastly its overwhelming to the students. The issue mostly affects students who are falling behind, students that work, and lastly students who have family responsibilities .These actions usually occur in school, home, and it’s definitely Nationwide .When fellow educators tend to say that homework gets stressful , interferes when they have side projects in different classes, in the weekend because that’s when they have time to plan an event with their family and finally when finals are around the corner .If no one is trying to make an effort it can lead to health issues, no social life, and anxiety/stress. If we don’t try to attempt to find a solution who will?…

Homework is bad for you. Researchers say it is excessive and counterproductive(Current Events 10/27/06.) The U.S.A has one of the lowest test scores in the whole world because the teachers give high amounts of homework. Homework in high quantities doesn’t pay off. “First, they say, the government now requires schools to meet higher-than-ever achievement goals for students. If students don't succeed, the school faces penalties. Second, many parents want their children to be able to get into the nation's best colleges and universities. These parents believe homework is a way to ensure students are learning at their full capacity.” (Cooper, Harris)…
