Writing and English
During the course of both English composition courses I took this year, which include English 101 and English 102, I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were unattainable. I have not only grown as a writer and a student, but as a person as well. I feel that through my experience of these English courses, I have gained the knowledge and confidence it takes to step out into the real world. To be quite honest, all my academic life, I always categorized writing under English class only; however, I recently realized that the skills you acquire in English courses, will be extremely beneficial to you. Whether it is writing a business letter, to a history essay, knowing how to write, is always a must. As a young child, I loved to write stories to my mom, while using my creative, deep imagination. Writing was always a way for me to escape my every day life and jump into a much more elaborate, carefree, world of creativity. Although, I always enjoyed writing, during high school, I would often find myself frustrated considering I had the worst case of writer’s block. I constantly felt that I did not know how to write “correctly,” which caused me to begin to despise writing all together. During the course of my English 101 class, we learned how to read closely, write a “text in context” essay, and how to write a reflective paper as well. Honestly, I found English 101 a breeze for me, possibly because my teacher was EXTREMELY laid back, and we never were pushed out of our comfort zones. At that specific time, I thought I was lucky because I was getting easy grades for a small amount of efforts. I was surprised for this outcome, because during high school I always thought college English was going to be much more difficult. Now with English 101 over, I was faced with English 102. Possibly due to my feelings towards my English 101 class, I thought English 102 was going to be similar. I was completely wrong. I can remember the first few days of class, the

As my English 101 class comes to an end there are many valuable lessons we learned in this class. We learned how to respond to the author. We learned how to write in the They Say/I Say style, which I plan on using this style to write in most of my papers from now on. Another lesson we learned in this class was how to create a thesis with tension. The lessons I learned in English 101 will most likely be used again as I progress on with English 102 as well as the rest of my college career.…

I learned from the instructor and my fellow students on the weekly discussions. The reading material was provided for the class. The student was expected to register for Comfit. Between Comfit and the quizzes the students in writing 101 can develop their grammar abilities. I have learned through trial and many errors the fundamentals of grammar. We started this class with an introduction. Week one was an introduction to grammar skills to include reading paragraph essay writing. Week two took us through a library tutorial, more grammar skill and our first essay. Writing assignment one consisted of between 1000-1200 word essay about Massive Open Online Courses. Week three we had another library tutorial, Lessons on APA citations, grammar skills and writing assignment two. Writing assignment two like writing assignment one is between 1000-1200 word essay. This essay I chose to write about the impact of file-sharing on the music industry. Week four essay three gave the option to write about the same topic as in writing assignment two but you had to utilize between 1500-1700 words. I turned in late and most of the time incomplete…

English 101 however, helped me improved the areas in which I was weak in from high school. Before, it was difficult to find the bigger meaning of an article, poem, or any form of writing in general. However, with the help from taking this course I was able to figure out how to add meaning to the essay. I also learned how to add evidence and analysis them better in my body paragraphs as well. It was difficult in the past, but now I gained skills such as outlining, writing rough drafts and the organization needed for a successful essay. I hope in English 102 that I will use my English 101 skills and be even more skilled in my essay writing. I also hope to learn more about adding evidence within the paragraphs and honing in the essay to make it all flow together. Also in English 102 I hope that I will learn to be more confident with my essays. I have talked in a couple of assignments where my confidence makes me question whether or not to add certain analysis into essays which sometimes may have made my grade not as good as it could have been. In English 102, I hope I will not question myself as much and show more confidence. I also wish to eliminate repetition in English 102. I have received many comments that I repeat my analysis a lot and that also cuts of some points of my grade. I need to continue the analysis more rather than just repeat it in a different way. With these two core English classes that I have/will take, I know that my foundation in writing will be…

English 1101 was not like I expected. I came into the class thinking this was going to the hardest class I have ever taken. Turns out that the class was one of the easiest subjects I have taken this semester. There were only a few essays that had to be written which was good and bad thing at the same time. My grade was pleasing considering the fact that I am only a sophomore in high school. The class will be every beneficial in the future; when it is all over I will appreciate taking the course. While the structure of the class was not put together well, the English 1101 class turned out to be manageable.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

On my first day of English 102-06 I was kind of nervous. I really did not know what to expect. Especially once I meet my professor he seemed a bit intimidating. However, I still wanted to challenge myself. He gave all of his students the option to drop his class if we were not ready. He mentioned that the work would be intense. I still was interest in taking this class although the said all of this. I thought to myself this should be easy. Since I passed English 101, I thought it couldn’t be any worse. I was in such a surprise. In English 101 you’re doing more essay than anything, which isn’t that hard. In English 102-06 it’s more of reading texts that you really don’t understand. It is intense but in a good way.…

Over the course of the past three months, I have had the distinct pleasure of testing my writing capabilities through the Introduction to College Writing course. I have always had a passion for writing in all forms, but in previous years, the course work in grade-level English classes have been unchallenging of my writing ability. I have been heavily involved in Bonneville High School’s newspaper through journalism since my freshman year. This allowed me to strengthen my writing capability as I was drafting throughout the entire school year. I have never truly had to apply myself until I enrolled in English 101. Since the beginning of the class, I have faced various hardships while writing essays in unfamiliar styles, such as drafting a response to a scholarly article and synthesizing opposing perspectives. I have learned that I am more than capable in writing in different styles and that all of my work will be quality content regardless of the topic. I overcame the obstacles that have challenged me, and my essays exhibit that I am fully prepared to continue my work in English 102.…

    English 111 Objective

I believe that the major objective of English 111 is to practice different substantial skills that will help you increase your writing abilities. These skills will prepare students when they’re expressing thoughts, feelings, viewpoints, and information orally or on paper. In my opinion, the most important central concept communicated in the syllabus is the Course Schedule. I will constantly be marking off the assignments that I have already completed so that I know which ones I have left to complete. It’s extremely important to be well organized and to always keep up with when the work is due. If you get too far behind, it’ll end up being too much work to catch up on. Being proficient is key to success in this class. The only question that…

Everyone deserves a seat in English 101, but, unfortunately, it cannot be that way. It is upsetting, but I do understand the circumstances. Therefore, since not everyone can be in a class like this, I will say this: I deserve a seat in this class. Not because I think I am better than the other candidates, but because I truly want to better myself, so someday, I can say that I am one of the best. I know…
