Hitman Essay
With colourful buildings complemented with ocean views and delightful vistas, the Italian coastal town setting of Hitman: episode 2 is certainly a treat to the eyes. Agent 47 is back and this time, he trades his familiar smart attire we last saw at the fashion show in Paris and opts for some summer wear as he is tasked with infiltrating a villa housing two bioterrorist scientists who are the brainchild of a particularly nasty DNA-targeting virus.
While the concept and mechanisms are exactly the same as the previous Paris mission in episode 1, episode 2 feels more like the Hitman experience that the developers are trying to portray. Fancy impersonating a golf instructor? Or perhaps stealing a kitchen hands identity? Of course, you can approach each assassination however you see fit, but it is worth trying out all the options available to you.
When you decide to finally get down to business, being within the villa's walls doesn't offer anything exceptionally different from in Paris. Gradually gaining access to different levels and rooms by subduing staff members and disguising yourself while disposing of unconscious bodies is part and parcel of all Hitman games and thus far, both episode 1 and 2 have stayed true to the Hitman ethos.
Unfortunately, like episode 1, the AI still suffers from moments of nonsensical behaviour and it's disappointing when you soon realise that your targets tend to keep to the same scripted paths throughout the level but these annoyances don't ruin the overall fun you can have.
What Hitman has shown so far, though, is that it can produce on the grandest stage. The transition from the last generation to this generation has allowed Hitman to showcase that it can produce expansive environments as seen in episode 1 and incredibly detailed atmospherics as saw in episode 2.
