Questions arise when you are thinking of the Trojan War and its history. How did the war start? , What battle techniques did the Trojan use? Greeks? What mythical creatures and beings were involved in the war and how they changed the course of the battle? What type of battle gear did the Trojans use versus the Greeks? The Trojan war is depicted in the novel of the Iliad and described by Homer, the author of the Iliad. The Iliad shows the history and brutality of the warfare between the Greeks and the Trojans and how it affected both fronts, the home and main, but first, the narrator and his background. Homer is estimated to have lived around 1200 BC and 750 BC through much speculation on the date on which he was born. Next is where Homer was born, through research of the novel , the Iliad, researchers have come to a conclusion by studying the language in which the Iliad was written. The language being Asiatic-Greek pinpointed Thrace as the city where Homer was born and raised. Homer was according to studies on his book, blind and the son of Epikaste and Telemachus. It is thought of by historians that Homer wrote the Iliad, for the history prospect of telling the Trojan war, to earn a living in society even though most people didn’t know how to read, to become an accomplished performer by acting out what he had written down in his book (Iliad), and finally maybe he just wanted to write about the Trojan War and its history, by displaying the beauty and honor of dying in battle. The Greeks unlike some other races viewed dying in battle as the ultimate sacrifice a man could give and thus they believed the greatest honor was bestowed upon him when the soldier would die. The reason Homer wrote the Iliad, I believe is to show future races about the destruction, glory and treachery involved in war specifically the Trojan war against the rest of the Greeks.
