History of Malaysia Road Transport Department
In 1937, Road Transport Department was established under the Traffic Enactment 1937. British military law in the Federated Malay States. Administration was then known as the Road Transport Authority. This is to regulate and license the functioning of public enterprises. In April 1946,with the administration of Malaya, the board had been taken over by the Office of Registrar and Inspection Motor cars covers the whole Malaya.
Before 1937, control of the motor car is under 4 of the Federated Malay States of Perak and Selangor Under Police, Inspector General of Negeri Sembilan and Pahang 6 District Officer. In the Federated Malay States, the control is not effective. Apart from the four states of motor vehicle until the Traffic Enactment 1937 is approved.
By replacing the 1937 Road Traffic Enactment, a law called the Road Traffic Ordinance 1953 was approved. The enforcement division has been established and carry out the enforcement functions especially for commercial vehicles to enforce the law.
Road Transport Department was established on 1st of April 1946. The aims of this department is to coordinate all aspects of transport for the whole country. A variety of related acts have been enacted such as the Road Transport Road Traffic Ordinance 1958 and the Road Transport Act 1987, in relation to the establishment of this department. The objective is to standardize the country’s transportation laws as well as a platform to Road Transport Department responsibilities. The system has been improve in 1980,the quality of the service increase because of their multiple responsibilities. By improving efficiency and to suit the needs of current interest, the department has done the internal restricting. Many innovation’s have been created to improve efficiency in service in each section of department. In 1990’s,the demands that promotes the transport system is the most impressive progress.
