History 11 Midterm Study Guide
Midterm Five of the following seven questions will be on the midterm exam. From the five on the exam you will pick two to write on using material from lectures and the text book.
1. Compare the experience of the French, Spanish and English in colonizing the New World. What common perception of the region did they share? Discuss differences in their relationship with Native Americans.
2. Compare and contrast the economies and social structures of New England, the Chesapeake/South and the Middle colonies.
3. Trace the development of the British-American conflict. Could the relationship have been saved?
4. Imagine that you are a farmer in Massachusetts when war breaks out. Explain your reasons for supporting the Revolution.
5. Compare the strengths and weaknesses of the Confederation government. Was it doomed to failure? Why?
6. Imagine you are either a Federalist or Anti-Federalist. Argue for (or against) ratification of the Constitution. Include economic status, geographic region and political ideals in your argument.
7. In the 1790s, why did the revolutionary political leaders become divided over the course of the new nation? What was the result?

Final

Five of the following seven questions will be on the final exam. From the five on the exam you will pick two to write on using material from lectures and the text book. Be as thorough and detailed as possible.
1. Discuss the acquisitions the United States made between 1803 and 1853. What impact did they have on the development of the country?
2. In what ways did the transportation revolution contribute to the development of a national market economy in the United States.
3. Describe the Jackson presidential administrations. Was he successful?
4. Compare the United States’ foreign policy toward Mexico and Great Britain in the 1830s and 1840s. How do you account for the similarities and differences in America’s actions towards these countries?
5. Evaluate the causes
