In regards to the definition of religion given in The Sacred Quest, we find that due to the complexity of the term religion there are many different ways to satisfy what it actually is. It can be recognized that sacred reality indicates the characteristics of being specially distinctive; beyond human control; concerned with human welfare; and determinative of aspects of human existence. In a world of diverse religious traditions, we are offered distinct perceptions of sacred reality. For example Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are usually categorized as religions of transcendence, defining sacred reality as being beyond or “standing over” ordinary existence. Meanwhile, Hinduism and Buddhism are considered religions of immanence, meaning they do not portray sacred reality with an all-powerful God who is eternal and surpassing of human understanding.…

There are many different people in the world today with a varied view of religion. There are perhaps thousands of religious belief sets throughout the world. In the workplace we are confronted with individuals from all walks of life, cultures and religions. There is a woman that I work with by the name of Kiran. She is of Indian descent and I have had the good fortune to become close to her and share the gospel of my God. She is always kind and listens to me preach to her without judgment or condemnation.…

Hinduism is a way of life. Hindu’s worship multiple deities, but Christians’ only believe in a single God, who created the ethereal and temporal worlds. Hindu’s adorn themselves ornamental clothing that have a specific religious meaning and some Christians wear special trinkets of faith, according to different denominations. Hindu’s are noted to pray three times a day and depending on the denomination, Christians will attend church several times a week to only once a week. Hindu’s believe in reincarnation once death has transpired (Sharma, 2002), while Christians believe upon death, the soul ascends to heaven and the body stays on…
Upon reading this chapter I was intrigued. How have these indigenous religions survived hundreds of thousands of years with little to no written text? I understand that most of their teachings were passed down orally or from some form of pictures. However, I cannot help but wonder if maybe parts of the religions were changed along the way. These indigenous religions are usually found in remote parts of the world with almost no access to technology. With that being said, how did we come to know so much about them? The customs, beliefs and ways of the people to which each religion belongs has been revealed to the world; not by the people themselves, but by those that have stumbled upon them. In most cases the outsider has no knowledge of the native language. How do we know the…
Being a Hindu, growing up in a modern society, I have got this wonderful opportunity to research Hinduism in contemporary world. In this essay, I have explored Hinduism not only by juxtaposing it with modern Hinduism, but also with ancient religious practices. Modernity is not simply the western world, or connecting to contemporary and rejecting the old. Modernity, as David Smith says is theorization of modern world and according to modernity self is autonomous, and God is dead. This feature of modernity contradicts present day world. For us, yes we are autonomous, but God is still alive within us, somewhere within our heart, in the air, in water and everywhere. We are not autonomous, we are controlled by the government and our future depends…
If you are familiar with the term “indigenous” you would know to define that as anything native to a certain area. Indigenous religions are religions native to a particular geographic region. These religions have been studied for many years, and have been thought to be profound due to their distinctive practices. However, most people, westerners for example, may have a skewed view of these religions, and may find them to be more aboriginal rather than developed. The most common traits of indigenous religions are lack of writings and scripture, sense of unity, and belief in higher powers.…

In chapter 2, the textbook author uses various terms for “indigenous religions”: traditional, aboriginal, indigenous, tribal, nonliterate, primal, native, oral, and basic. Select four or five of these terms and discuss why you believe each of those terms is applicable to the religions covered in this chapter.…
Indigenous religions are those that are not mobile, came into being in certain areas and have not expanded beyond that area. These were also more tribal based, with mostly oral histories. I find animism very interesting and it is a strong belief in many indigenous religions. Animism to me symbolizes the closeness that indigenous people had with nature. Respecting their surroundings was a path to sustainable survival. Animism capturers my imagination, because in today’s world there is very little connection to nature and I feel modern society suffers for that loss. Another aspect is magic, I had known that indigenous people performed dances and rituals, but I had never thought of it in the terms of magic. Imitative magic makes a lot of sense…
The Indians religion is developed from many creation stories, and are similar to the Stone Age and the Vikings Empire. The Indian religions is consist of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, and is worshipped and practiced differently by many Indians. The Indians depends on their goddesses and gods for blessing and being the provider of food, and wealth. Hinduism is the largest religion in India because is known as a one god religion that transformed in an avatar's form to serve many purposes... The word “Vedas” mean knowledge, and the India believed in an afterlife called the castle system that states “...living a good life means the soul will be born into a higher state in its next incarnation, an evil life did not means eternal damnation but a rebirth of the soul into a lower state, possibly even as an animal” (Davis, Pg. 327). This is a kind of system that mean if you do the right thing your soul will probably be reborn in a better class than the past until you enter in the heavenly kingdom where the head god Brahman Lives. Yoga as also played a role In the India religions, because yoga was used doing the India time of worshipped to connect their body and mind with their soul during meditation. In some of the India creation stories the “primal man” was cut into pieces and offered as sacrifices to form the universe. “… From his head the sky evolved, from his feet the earth, and from his ear the cardinal points of the compass”…
