LOW COST HILL ASCENT ROLL-BACK UNIT FOR CARS-A NOVEL APPROACH

Abstract
Every year, majority of the accidents that happen in hills is due to stalling of cars and inefficient braking. Stalling of cars happens due to irregular clutch handling and leads to sudden engine failure. Stalling may be very dangerous for cars especially on hilly terrain. These consequences can be avoided by the usage of cars with advanced adaptive braking system. However, cars which have advanced adaptive braking system are very costly. Moreover these cars have a very low ground clearance and are not viable on Indian terrains.
Hence, an efficient and cost-effective design for the existing Hill Climb Assist or (HDC- Hill Descent Control) has been conceived. This efficient, low-cost remodeled Hill Climb Assist will bridge the gap between Indian cars and ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles), thereby making the Hill Climb Assist an affordable system.
Automotive Electronics and computational techniques are used to analyze and implement smart and user -friendly driving. This project emphasizes on the best and effective utilization of electrical and Mechanical devices, thereby enhancing the user’s driving experience, when driving in uneven hilly Terrains.
The control unit has been implemented real-time using an array of infrared sensors which are powered and controlled by ATMEGA32 microcontroller. The central idea is to detect the orientation of the car using an accelerometer and sense the direction of the car’s wheel motion using an arrangement of IR sensors placed on the axle of the wheel .and a receiver placed on the axle cover .If the wheel slips backward when the reverse gear is not turned on, automatic solenoidal braking is done once half clutch is applied. This electromechanical aid will add to users comfort and reduce car borne accidents that happen due to toppling and slipping in an uneven terrain .The system is first evaluated and tested on (NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS LABVIEW).The Entire
