The Qualities of Heroes
“We should allow for the heroic impulse-which is to be greater than oneself..” (Stone 820).
We are surrounded by people who help make the world a better place. These people are what we would normally call our heroes. They stand out when we help the most. The heroes are the people who are selfless, fearless, and strong. There are people who care for only themselves and then there are those who care for others. Everyday people are doing things for others in a time of need. Men and women who go to war for the safety of our country. Volunteers at Feed My Starving Children. The celebrities who donate most of their earnings to charity. These are just a few of the people who are committing a selfless act of heroism. The selflessness of a human being is what can easily make someone a hero. Fear consumes majority of the entire human race. There are a very lucky few who actually can push fear aside. About half of those people use their fearlessness to show true signs of heroism. Firemen, U.S. Military, and the Police force are just a few examples of the fearless heroes in our world. These people risk their lives to ensure the men and women they are protecting can live a safe and happy life. The fearless quality these heroes have make them who they are. Strength can come in many different forms, but there are two main strengths. There is physical strength and then there is mental strength. Heroes in comic books would normally use their superior physical strength, whereas heroes in the real world will use mental strength. Using mental strength involves an individual improving the mind so that it is always on his/her side. Technically the human mind is against us most of the time telling us we do not have the ability to do certain things. When a hero uses mental strength, they are fighting the mind telling it that they can do something when the mind is saying that they cannot.
