Heroes Essay The question remains: who is worthy to be called a hero? I have seen many people who deserve the title of a hero for many bold actions. Sure, they do not wear legendary costumes, drive bat-mobiles or possess superhuman abilities. Of course, there is much more to a hero than just what is visible to the eye. As a matter of fact, it is all about what is on the inside—the qualities and behavior fixed in a mentality. That is why self-obsessed people do not make it on the list of heroes since their mind tends to think only about one’s self. In today’s era, the people who are marked as heroes are acknowledged because they achieved something for the good of others. Looking back to an earlier time in my life, I cannot remember a time of absolute poverty in my family, thanks to my mother. She is the one person who contributed so much and asked for nothing in return. The key concept of a hero lies in selfless motivation, expanding the scope of sacrifice to offer courtesy for others. In our society, we are constantly being influenced by the media which soon begins to control our way of thinking. Is it not amusing when someone mentions the word “hero” and the first thing that comes to mind is a muscular figure wearing bodysuits topped with underwear and a cape? Sure, they are heroes given they succeed fictionally, only satisfying the imagination of the writer. On the other hand, the heroes in the real world look quite different. In fact, when recognizing a hero, the first aspect viewed is one’s qualities. Heroes are people who help others through selfless acts of will. They are brave, standing up for others in the acts of justice. Furthermore, a hero is someone who is loyal, never giving up no matter how harsh the circumstances. It takes a great deal of sacrifice, bravery and loyalty to become a hero. Though the media mostly focuses our eyes to fictional heroes, it cannot blind our hearts from distinguishing a true hero.
