Hero: High School and Super Natural Powers
I am a Superhero
By: Haide Monica D. De Ocampo

Being a hero doesn’t need to be a superhuman with super natural powers.

‘Are superheroes real?’ That was my question when I was still a child. Superpowers, Magic Stone, gods and goddesses, those are mostly the things that surround a hero. But will there ever be a Hero without any Superpowers?

This High School Year, I’ve been engaged in reading this book: Percy Jackson and The Olympians. Percy, just like us, were normal, been kicked out in different schools, Living a normal life, until then, he didn’t know that he was a hero, A Demigod, half-blood, half-human, half- god. Percy is the kind of hero that I want, he commits a mistake, trying to live a normal life, and handling everything under his control. Like him, I want to help other people even though I don’t have any superpowers.

Even without power, there is a hero in every one of us. All of us were born Superhero. Just think of this, without our police officers, what do you think happen already in our world? Full Chaos, I guess. Without the Firefighters, who do you think will put out the fires? None, right. The Teachers, Who do you, think will teach us these stuffs, Do you think will we ever be successful if there is no teacher that touches our life? No. They fill us the knowledge that our parents can’t. Be thankful!

Me as a student I will help my classmates when they can’t understand something. Being a hero doesn’t mean helping others with other little things that they can, like letting them cheat in the quizzes, just because they didn’t study. A hero doesn’t teach Laziness, Cheating, and copying.

Being a hero doesn’t need to be a superhuman with super natural powers. Being a hero is doing the right thing, doing and helping other people especially those who are in need. Because the real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else. And they do good action by stealth, and it is always found out

People read and watch things about heroes all the time because in the deepest reaches of their mind they aspire to be among their ranks. The problem with the average person’s desire to be a hero is that they don’t truly know what a hero is. A hero is able to bounce back from a defeat that would stop any normal man in their tracks, they are inspirational, they gain followers and believers just by doing what they think is right, and they don’t have to be strong, but have to be able to take mental punishment like no other.…

Throughout history, there have been an incalculable number of heroes; that can be through reality or fictitious. From viewing the clips from this assignments and reading various articles regarding heroism, there are multiple aspects that determine exactly what a hero should be. In regards to the Spiderman video, Aunt May explains that a hero is someone that is courageous, self-sacrificing, and sets examples for others. Likewise, an article I read describes a hero as someone who is courageous, selfless, humble, patient, and caring. In my opinion, a hero is an individual who cares more about the life of others than themselves; they would do anything in their power to protect others as well as the world around them.…

Indeed we were all influenced by characters with superpowers, believing one day we can grow up, and one day use powers such as those of Superman or Spiderman to one day save the world. However as we mature, we eventually learn that we may not have a supernatural power, but we all have a mind of our own, where we can create opinions and thoughts and use those beliefs as superpowers of our own to influence the world as it is today, for a better tomorrow. An example of this is…

“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman!” For decades comic book characters such as Superman, The Incredible Hulk, Batman, and Wonder Woman have captured the imaginations of American children and adults alike. “Superheroes,” they have been coined. But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains such as the Joker and the Riddler. Because these heroes are fictional, we are left without real life heroes… or are we? The answer is clearly no. Heroes are all around us. They can be courageous, intelligent, strong or daring, but heroes to me are selfless and brave.…

A hero can be real or fictional but either way a hero goes through the same stages and has choices to make to help others at whatever cost. Someone may not seem like they could be a hero but by doing what they can, could help make a huge difference in someone’s life. Being a hero is not always what movies and comic books make it out to be; a hero can be a regular person being generous. Making the right choices and decisions is what helps shape a person to be a hero; they don’t become one just for the fame.…

I think that Gene Luen Yang and Sonny Liew have done a great job of bringing the early 1940’s superhero back to life. The spirits are: Dragon, Phoenix, Tiger, and Tortoise, these guardians of China are speaking with each other trying to find a successor from the common people of China to rise up to be Emperor and carry on the Chinese legacy of a great royal dynasty.…

A hero can make a difference in a small, medium, or large way. Some say that you can’t be a hero until you do a difficult or large task to prove that you are one. The truth is, the world is filled with heroes who became one by one simple task. Like your parents, city workers, or many other citizens. People aren’t doing the good to help themselves, there doing it for the person they are helping. When I was little I used to watch a show called Kim Possible. It was about a teenage crime fighter who defeats villain all over the world. She uses gadgets such as grappling hooks and spyglasses. She also had a sidekick named Ron Stoppable who helped her on all her missions. I was fascinated with Kim and all the things she could do. She was never afraid of anything and was always put others before herself. Kim Possible risked her life to do what’s right. One time I asked my mom if there were heroes like Kim in real life. She said yes but not like Kim Possible. They were regular people like you would see everyday. They didn’t necessary have special talents or cool tools, but they were brave and compassionate. Someone like a firefighter or a police officer was someone she considered a hero. Heroes are people that give their lives to saving others and protecting someone. This is not the only case. Some heroes become heroes by accident. Sometimes quick thinking and life changes actions qualify people to become a hero even if they don’t mean to. Teachers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School are an example of this. On December 14th 2012, the teachers and students arrived at school as they always did but today they left as heroes. From ages 6-40, courageous boys and girls to matters into their own hands and made decisions that saved lives. One of these heroes was Victoria Soto. She was a teacher at the school who give up her life to save her students. Because of this I call her a hero even if she didn’t choose to be. I believe a hero is someone who puts others before themselves.…
