Heath Ledger Career
Fallen Knight

Some people can remember where they were the day President Kennedy was assassinated and most can remember every detail of September 11, 2001, but the most vivid memory I have is the day Heath Ledger died. I know it sounds a little dramatic, but I swear my heart was ripped from my throat and I cried like a baby. I was in shock and to tell you the truth, I still am. Knights aren’t supposed to die; they are supposed to live forever. I know now that it was all a fairy tale because my knight died January 22, 2008. The first time I saw Heath he played Mel Gibson’s son in The Patriot. As I watched him I felt his passion for his character. He was so believable and it didn’t hurt that he was incredibly good looking. Yes, I know he is ten years younger than me, but that didn’t stop me from developing the hugest school girl crush, and for the next ten years I followed his career and unfortunately, his love life. I watched every movie he played in, though I must have been extremely dedicated because some were not that great. His love life was also not so hot, which I actually enjoyed. He had his ups and downs but for the most part, he was extraordinary. I truly loved him. Heathcliff Andrew Ledger was born in Perth Australia April 4, 1979. Heath was of Irish and Scottish decent which was displayed in his glowing olive skin, golden blond hair, and dreamy brown eyes. As a child Heath excelled in sports but when he was ten years old the acting bug bit him when he played Peter Pan at a local theater. In Junior High he began taking drama classes which led to his dream of one day becoming an actor. When Heath turned seventeen he decided to pack up his car and move to Sydney. He arrived in Sydney with sixty-nine cents to his name. He was determined to make it and that he did. He made it all the way to Hollywood, CA with an Oscar nomination for his most controversial movie, Brokeback Mountain (Wikipedia). Back in Sydney acting roles came easily but

There is no escape from the horrors that were all around me. Dead bodies floated silently around while the living ones were face to face with death itself fighting until the very end. Others just lost hope and gave up. “How foolish to believe we are more powerful than the sea or the sky” (pg.341). Everything seemed so hopeless but there was something in me that didn’t give up, I wanted to see my dear Halinka so badly and cradle her in my arms, reassuring her that everything will be alright. But the truth is that I myself also need reassuring, but one thing I knew for sure was that I knew that the knight would be a savior.…

Actor. Born Thomas Sean Connery on August 25, 1930 in Fountainbridge, Scotland. The son of Joe, a truck driver, and Euphamia, a 20-year-old housewife, Connery had a modest upbringing in a neighborhood known as "the street of a thousand smells" for the stench of the local rubber mill and several breweries that always filled the air. "We were very poor," Connery has commented, "but I never knew how poor because that's how everyone was there." I never gave much thought to how I would die. Maybe it would happen of old age, silently in my sleep, or maybe I’m that one in a million that gets struck by lightning and is mentioned all over the news. For my grandpa, Lawrence Dickerson, it was also something he didn’t give much thought about until he was sent to fight in the Korean War. He explained the agony of being on constant alert because one wrong move could kill you or compromise the safety of your unit, that while in combat you can physically hear the sound of your partner’s heavy heart beat thumping against their chest, and the unsettling thought that any moment can be your last. He went from being a teenager isolated by a small town in West Virginia to a solider who was fighting…

The Knight’s Tale movie demonstrates how the archetypal heroic knight creates a unifying viewing window from which a story can be viewed or perceived. William is this heroic knight, and represents a rallying point for the common observer to align with during their viewing. By its definition alone the archetypal knight is a desirable role that, internally, many wish they could fill. William as a character possesses this positive association, as well as being a more relatable character by being impulsive, headstrong, and rebellious. All of which are traits that the common man possesses to some extent, and thus can see themselves mirrored in Williams’s character.…

Lastly we have the movie We Were Soldiers. Death is shown here to be a horrible and agonizing event; soldiers were shot, burned, stabbed, and exploded. This is an action film set during the Battle of Ia Drang, one of the Vietnam war's most horrific battles. The war shows the randomness of death as soldiers all around Joe Galloway are dying. As an Army reporter Galloway has no real formal combat training but manages to survive this ordeal. In contrast to Galloway’s survivability hundreds of combat ready soldiers are killed. This shows how in a time of war, death has no meaning. Nonetheless, it does take on the form of luck, which is clear by Galloway’s ability to always be adjacent to the deceased, but he is never harmed. Furthermore, at the…
