Health Start Where We Learn Essay
Over the years I have noticed a great change in my lifestyle choices to improve my standard of living and some choices I still struggle to change. Having physical health isn’t always enough. It is very important to be healthy mentally, physically and socially. I understand personal factors do come into play since every individual has a different upbringing, different cultural backgrounds that have an effect on the way they choose to live their life. After reading Health Starts Where We Learn (2010), I would have to agree with the author’s thoughts on what they believe impacts our health. The environment in which we live, the level of education we achieve, our relationship with our work, and the importance of play all contribute to the health choices we choose. I believe it is important to watch what we consume, the amount of sleep we get, take part in physical activities, etc. in order to feel well both mentally and physically. As years went by I was able to critically think and with my reasoning and understanding based on research and the scientific method I was able to develop a better understanding of the values I strongly believe in now. The beliefs, attitudes and values I hold have positively impacted my life choices and my overall health. Growing up I was a strong supporter of being kind to the people and environment around me. As I grew older my values and attitude on life got stronger. Values such as a strong relationship with my family and friends, importance of education, honesty have all shaped me positively. Being considerate of the world we live in and taking care of nature has always been of great value to me. I have developed a great habit of recycling, feeding animals, planting trees, etc. which have made me more thoughtful and respectful to the environment I live

The health assessment tool on the webpage is called “my wellness score card”.     Family life style has a big impact and influence on one’s health choices either it is good or bad. I was born and raised in Vietnam, which is one of the agricultural countries in the world. Therefore, vegetable and fruits were various and plenty. For that reason, we had learned to practice our cuisine with mainly vegetables and fruits. In addition, playing with my neighbors and swimming in the beach were what I did for entertainment when I was young.
