Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - This means the employers have the responsibility for everyone on their premises; this can be the employees, workers from other organisations, visitors and service users. The employers must carry out risk assessments before opening. Their health and safety policy must be reviewed frequently. They must record all accidents or incidents. They must be responsible for safety equipment, information and training. They must have insurance, the liability insurance is compulsory and public insurance is suggested. Food Safety Act 1990 - This guarantees that all food is safe to eat. It ensures that foods are being kept at the right temperature and cross contamination is prevented. This impacts a care home majorly. Elderly people rely on carers to provide them with safe food. Therefore carers must confirm that the food they are providing is recognised by the food safety act. They must confirm that they follow all rules and guidelines. Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 - This act ensures that all employees should try and avoid manual handling operations, you should plan and evaluate every lift, and try to take steps to reduce the risk, such as not twisting, not …show more content…
The vetting scheme is a policy that allows the employer to check people before you can employ them, this can be a CRB/DBS check, it is the employer’s responsibility to get this done. The barring scheme enable people to be banned from types of work such as, working with adults with learning disabilities, children and the elderly. People can be banned if they have a criminal record which may put these types of people at risk. This promotes the safety of the individual because it bans people from working if they have previously been convicted.
