Promote and Implement Health and Safety in Health and Social Care

* 1.3 Analyse the main health and safety responsibilities of * Self: As an employee I have a legal duty to take responsibility to care for my own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by what I do or don’t do.
Also to co-operate with my employer with health and safety. To correctly use work items and equipment provided by my employer, which includes personal protective equipment, in accordance to training and instruction. To not interfere with misusing anything that is provided for my health and safety * The employer or manager: It is an employer's duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other people who might be affected by their business. Employers must do whatever is reasonably practicable to achieve this.
This means making sure those workers and others are protected from anything that may cause harm, effectively controlling any risks to injury or health that could arise in the workplace.
Employers have duties under health and safety law to assess risks in the workplace. Risk assessments should be carried out that address all risks that might cause harm in your workplace.
Employers must give you information about the risks in your workplace and how you are protected, also instruct and train you on how to deal with the risks.

* Others in the work setting
It is the responsibility of the manager to implement and maintain measures to secure the Health and Safety of employers and others, also to control risks likely to result in personal injury or damage to Health.
The identification and elimination or control of all hazard and conditions which present a risk to employees and others.
Where risks are identified, practical codes, standards of working and guidance on proper conduct will be complied and implemented according to risk assessments. The group will ensure on adequate level of supervision to deal with the day to day aspect of Health and Safety at work. Regular training will be held, so that all employees can gain relevant understanding of the regulations and codes of practice, so they may gain safe working practices,
Employees will be provided with the relevant information when it is necessary, effective joint consultation on Health and safety will be maintained and developed.
The Group reminds all employees that they have a duty to co-operate with their employer in meeting statutory obligations. Also they need to take care that their activities do not endanger themselves or others.

* 3.1 Describe different types of accidents and sudden illness that may occur in own work setting
Accidents
* Falls- mainly due to clients age group * trips * Choking- mainly due to clients age group * Cuts/ grazes * Burns – very rare due to supervision * Scalds

Sudden Illnesses that may occur in the home will include: * Diarrhoea and sickness – viruses and bugs * Strokes – due to the increase in age group and some of the service user’s life style choices. * Heart attacks- age group * Alcohol related illnesses

* 3.2 Explain procedures to be followed if an accident or sudden illness should occur The procedures that I follow if the accident in a minor injury would firstly assess the service users for any injuries if it was a cut or graze then it is cleaned and a plaster applied and observe the service user regularly to make sure they don’t become ill. I would write an accident form with the service user and get them to sign it, also maybe the G.P if the service user complains for feeling ill. If it is a major injury firstly calls 999 for an ambulance, first aid and keep the service user comfortable until the ambulance arrive and on both occasions fill in an accident report. * 4.1 Explain own role in supporting others to follow practices that reduce the spread of infection
As a care practitioner we must encourage service users to clean teeth daily, wash hands before they prepare food and after also after they have been to the toilet to help to prevent infection, wash clothes and bath regularly. Always promote good hygiene and daily living skills so that the service users will hopefully develop good hygiene skills. If a service user has a cold or sickness bug I try to encourage them to stay as much as possible in their own their room, while taking them meals and plenty of fluids.

5.1 Explain the main points of legislation that relates to moving handling
Use equipment properly and follow the correct procedures. The workplace – Health and Safety Regulations 1992 to work in safety * The provision of use of work equipment regulations (PUWER 1998) * The employer should provide adequate training and instruction, including wheelchairs * The lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations (LOLER 1998) these regulations apply to lifting equipment. Equipment is suitable, all staff should be trained, maintenance and recording incidents and 6 monthly checks by responsible person. * Health and Safety Law at work Act 1974. * Manual Handling Regulations operation 1992 * Lift operation and lifting Equipment 1998

* 7.1 Describe practices to prevent fires starting and spreading
At Llys Marchan as a care practitioner I am required to attend at least 2 fire training days a year. There is also a Fire procedure in place and all staff is required to be aware of what it is. The home is fitted with fire detectors and a fire panel which indicates in which area a fire has started and the home has fire doors fitted to try to prevent it form spreading. All any chemical that maybe flammable are kept in a locked cupboard and everyone who using them are aware of this. * 9.1 Describe common signs and indicators of stress
Common signs of stress will include irritable, impatient, changes in mood, unpredictable behaviour, depression and increased tiredness

* 9.2 Describes signs that indicate own stress
Signs that indicate that I maybe stressed will include serious headaches, unable to sleep, increased appetite, tiredness, short tempered and irritable.

* 9.3 Analyse factors that tend to trigger own stress
Factors that trigger my own stress are things such as family life which include illness, and mainly financial worries.

* 9.4 Compare strategies of managing stress
Strategies of managing stress can include some sort of physical activity such as walking, gym or an exercise class or relaxing activities such as a pamper session, reading or time to myself.
