This helps in monitoring how cost effectively the services are utilized. It is not to be mistaken as health care delivery at discounted prices. It’s goal is to provide quality care at affordable prices by restricting patient’s choice of physicians and physicians limiting their fees. People who seek care in America are mostly enrolled in health care plans such as health maintenance organizations(HMOs) and preferred provider organizations(PPOs).The less common plan people are enrolled in is point-of-service(POS) which has features of both HMO and PPO.HMO provides integrated and preventive care services to voluntarily enrolled families with low premiums within the network of doctors and hospitals that belong to the organization. It requires to select a primary care physician(PCP) who serves as a personal doctor to provide all basic health care services. PCPs include family physicians and internal medicine physicians. Some HMOs consider pediatricians(for children), gynecologists(for women) as PCPs. Before seeing a specialist or for a diagnostic service, it is required to obtain a referral from PCP(“gatekeeper”). If an outside specialist is chosen or referral is not obtained before seeing a specialist, no coverage for services is rendered by HMO. Many people like Nikki White, a thirty-two year old from Tennessee, will die because of our flawed system. Once Nikki was diagnosed with lupus it was impossible for her to get any health care. She had spent her last month’s pleading for help. As Dr. Amylyn Crawford said “Nikki didn't die from lupus, she died from complications of the failing American health care system. It was a lack of access to health care that killed Nikki White.” With people dying for due to a lack of healthcare that the country can provide leaves me to believe that the American health care system is definitely broken.…

Free insurance would be nice, sure, for everyone who is working, going to school, raising their family, or has served in the military, but that isn't possible. If free isn't possible, can it at least be afforadable? Even with the Affordable Care Act the insurance isn't affordable and people are still getting turned down for "making too much money." A single parent, working full time, with one child can't even get covered by the Affordable Care Act...how does that help the average working American? Some people are sick and don't have health care so their options are to not be treated, get worse, and possibly die..or see a doctor and accumulate so much debt that they can't pay back. On the same note, what if someone doesn't believe in hospitals, and doesn't go to see doctors or take any medications...why are they penelized for it? Insurance seems like a lose-lose with the Afforadable Care Act. They make insurance unafforadable and required which is not right.
