I think that the benefits of having medical information electronically stored in an internet database can be many things. One of the major benefits would be if something happened to you or a loved one and the ambulance needs to pick them up, they can have access to your information. This can in turn help save your life. The information is already in the database in the event that you do not remember or cannot speak at the moment. In the event that you go to a hospital where your regular doctors are not around, they can access your information. This helps so you do not receive the wrong medication which can lead to serious injuries or even death. Having

EHR can be a benefit to providers and patients because it allows providers to access patient's medical records effectively. This is good for several reasons. Test results and other important information can be available at the time and place that a physician needs, allowing them to provide better care to their patients. It also prevents tests from being repeated and eliminates a lot of mistakes that can be caused by using paper filing systems. EHRs also allow providers from multiple areas to collaborate, and to share medical records in order to care for patients more effectively. Preauthorization can eliminate problems with insurance eligibility, avoiding delays in payment for doctors and unnecessary costs for patients. Patients also receive…

What I can see now in the United States, is a race between, EHR, EMR, and PHR. Electronic Medical Records or EMRs are the electronic versions of classic paper charts that are still used by some clinicians who are still not 100% compliant and use for diagnosis purposes. While Electronic Health Records or EHRs have a wider scoop of a mission, for primary doctors can follow their patient’s journey of care through internet connections, but also allowing other clinicians to have access to that information for the same purpose of care. And Personal Health Records or PHR that allows patients to keep their own medical records online and enable them to control everywhere without visiting a clinic. Wherever patients travel and need medical care, they can retrieve their own records using the Internet. Whatever their purpose, now that computer system is widely used in medical practices, than in paper-based system, everything that used to be handwritten by healthcare providers and staff, including medical biller and coder, is now entered into a computer, directly into EHRs. And with this system, EHRs can increase the efficiency of staff members in the practice and at the same time improve the quality of care for the patients. No more time spent looking for charts or missing information. Multiple staff members with appropriate access privileges can view and modify a single patient’s chart simultaneously. No one has to wait for a chart to mail or deliver…

An unscrupulous person could access patient data and use it to commit fraud. Data loss is a major issue, a computer can crash and wipe out vital data that have been accumulating for years. The good thing about EHR would be that you have a back-up, but with paper medical records you’ll have to go through a lot to find it. Some more good things would be that it improved patient safety there’s also a reduction in errors. You also have immediate access there’s no delay in treatment and you also have access to multiple types of data from a single point.…

The main advantage of a standardized medical records database would be the convenience. To be able to locate a file with the push of a button would make work for the staff a lot faster. With paper documents it could take hours for another physician or hospital to obtain the information they would need. Another advantage would be the time it would take for a person to travel to and from their physician office to obtain their records for another facility.…

They explain what a health record is and what goes into it. The advantages and disadvantages to this system are discussed as well as if your information will be kept private. They tell you where you should start if your interested in using a personal health record system and they explain how the Mayo Clinic has a Health Manager that will give you reminders and recommendation about you health issues such as, “getting a pneumococcal immunization and annual influenza immunization if you have asthma.”(2001)…

The importance to health records is that it is easier to treat a patient if you already have the history of the patient illnesses and what medications have helped in the past as well as it will tell them anything they are allergic. They are also important for you don’t have to retake the same test over again if you already have it on file at the hospital you went too. Now with the electronic health care they are heping to make the paients experience better for them with less wait time and questions. Also with the electronic health records it helps the doctor to be reminded of when a new test needs to be done or when a prescription needs to be filled as well. I think that all health records are good because your doctor can go back and see what you were treated for and what has helped you in the past that can help you now.…
