Has the use of computers improved the quality of life for teenagers? With new technology, the ways teens live have dramatically changed since the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. People may argue that computers have negatively affected teen’s lives in ways such as, lack of communication skills, trouble in school, and causing violence from video games. There have been statements going around that teenagers are lacking face-to-face communication skills in result of repeatedly communicating over the computer. It has also been said that computers distract teens, while instead, they should be doing their studies. The last argument others may make is that video games will cause violence in teens. While people may think this, computers on the other hand, are actually very useful for teens. Computers have been helping teen’s lives in some important ways. Technology is still becoming more advanced which, all around, makes life for teens easier. Being able to keep in contact with friends, being able to search the Internet for millions of answers, and being able to have more options for entertainment are reasons why computers have eased the life for teenagers. The use of computers is a huge advantage in communicating with friends. A large amount of teens everywhere in the world hop on the computer and login to a social networking site. Social networking sites have completely changed the way teens communicate with each other. Facebook, twitter, and myspace have taken over the teen population by storm. “70% of teens report spending time on social networking sites in a typical day.” This is a remarkable amount of teens using these sites. Teens can write on their friend’s facebook wall, respond to a tweet, or send their friend a message. Social networking sites help teens keep in contact, but instant messaging on computers have also been very useful for communication.
