Harsher Penalties Needed To Deter Crimes
Crimes committed with a firearm have been on the rise in the Western world. Not surprisingly, it has become most predominant within the United States. “America sees far more gun violence than countries in Europe, and Canada, India and Australia, which is perhaps how it gets its bloody reputation among comparatively peaceful nations" (Khazan). This paper will focus on addressing the issues of crimes committed with a firearm within the United States. The U.S. stands out as a developed country that is struggling against gun violence. The argument stands that in order to decrease crimes committed with firearms and deter criminals and future criminals of committing a crime, there must be immediate punishments for those who are first time offenders; to serve maximum jail time based on the nature of their crime. Harsher sentencing and punishments needs to be given, for example, the death penalty for killing a person with a firearm other than instances of selfdefence or accidents. The Bible says, “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” (Leviticus 24:20). The United States needs to coincide with this idea and follow it through.
Within the last 10 years, the United States has been battling against the increasing and alarming rate of crimes committed with a firearm. One of the main reasons as to why there has been an increase in crimes linked to firearms could stem from if a person desires a firearm, they will use whatever means

to retain one. Any gun bearing United State citizen can either purchase a firearm, steal a firearm, or pay someone to purchase the firearm for them. Guns will always be available, so the debate is not to ban firearms, but make laws that will deter individuals from using them incorrectly. A reporter who visited Illinois and Indiana said,
