Harry Potter Violence
On November 14th 2001millions of people first heard the words ‘I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you. After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things. Terrible! Yes. But great.” Uttered in the wand shop of Mr. Ollivander on Diagon Alley, almost ten years and 7 films later we finally see those great things finally come to fruition. The Harry Potter series, according to author J.K. Rowling, is about how we respond to death and this film encompasses a fear and understanding of death on so many levels. Thanks to this statement by Ms. Rowling director David Yates focuses more on the tragedies and the aftermath of violence instead of weighing the film with epic battle scenes. The theme of death/ loss is displayed when we find out about Roy and Corals son who was killed in Vietnam. Coral constantly brings up the theme when she says, “I’ll be silent on all controversial topics. Will that do? I wont bring up anything worrying. Death, war, loss-.” This theme is carried over to Tom when we find out about his terminal illness when he has a conversation with Meg and says, “ So how bout it? Help me. I’m going to get sick again and I wont get better. Your parents won’t find out.” Even when Harry is talking to Jim death reveals itself throughout the duration of the conversation. In 2003, the motion picture, Kill Bill Volume 1, debuted in theaters. Set to a backdrop of bloodshed and violence, the film offers 112 minutes of savagery, as the main character attempts to get back at every person who has wronged her in the past four years. Kill Bill is only one of the many films in which violence is the number one attraction. “Kill or be killed,” seems to be the overarching motto, as millions of moviegoers flock into theaters each weekend to watch as characters fight to the death. In contrast, violence portrayed on the silver screen is no longer acceptable outside of the theater. Groups such as “Black Lives Matter” protest the violence enacted against minorities at…

Book Banning has existed in America since colonial times, when legislatures and royal governors enacted laws against blasphemy and seditious libel. Legislatures in the early American republic passed laws against obscenity. Though freedom of the press has grown significantly over the course of the twentieth century, book banning and related forms of censorship have persisted due to cyclical concerns about affronts to cultural, political, moral, and religious belief.…

    violence in kindred

In modern society, violence is unquestionably looked down upon. With any type of inhumane abuse, there is a strict set of laws in place to protect victims. However, this was not always the case. In Octavia Butler’s book Kindred, she does not hesitate in intensely describing the unjust and violent exploitation of power by white people against blacks within the 1800’s. Even more so, she uses violence as a dominant theme throughout the entire novel. As always, a sensitive topic like full out physical abuse is hard to handle for some readers, and that makes people question whether the prevalent violent theme in Kindred was truly necessary. Without violence, the novel would never of become such an accurate and view changing story. In fact, removing the violence in the book would of toned down reality and created a misrepresentation of historical fact. The necessity of violence in Kindred was to accurately educate the reader about the never ending abuse which blacks were forced to submit themselves too during the early 1800’s, and without it the novel would of been nothing more than pure fiction.…

Throughout many types of literature, violence exists to enhance the reader 's interest in order to add a sense of excitement or conflict to a novel. This statement withholds much truthfulness due to the fact that without violence in a piece of literature such as Dracula by Bram Stoker, the plot would not have the same impact if it were lacking violence. So to holds true to that of the movie. The movie bares different characteristics then that of the book. First off, the whole ordeal with the wolf escaping and jumping into Lucy 's, room and Lucy 's mom having a heart attacked is never even mention in the movie. Second, The night when the four men go to Lucy 's grave and find it empty is stated both in the book and in the movie however what unfolds after this is different. Finally, the end of the book differs severely from what Francis Ford Copolas rendition and that of the Bram Stoker see it to be. The differences are as follows…

"Yet Harry Potter was still there, asleep at the moment, but not for long. His Aunt Petunia was awake and it was her shrill voice that made the first noise of the day." (Rowling 13) I find this passage significant because it shows the way his aunt treats him. This passage connects with me because waking up to my parents fighting or "shrill voices" happened a lot when I was younger and still sometimes happen. This passage reminds me of me because waking up to my parents fighting would annoy me but then I would have to get up to tell them to stop. I like this part of the book because this is something that many teens can relate to whether its their parents fighting or their guardian waking them up in the morning. In my opinion a lot of the non-magical…

“If video games do increase violent tendencies outside the laboratory, the explosion of gaming over the past decade from 3.2 billion in sales in 1995 to $7 billion in 2003, according to industry figures, would suggest a parallel trend in youth violence. Instead, youth violence has been decreasing.” (Hoerrner 49). A video game is a game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or display. Violence is behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Some video games have violent and mature content in them. People claim that the violence in video games can cause aggression in people. Others claim that the violence in video games has nothing to do with aggression in people. It is also argued that violence in video games has nothing to do with the rage already existing inside of people. Video games do not cause violence because gamers understand that video games are not real, that video games release daily frustration and are inspiring.…

As I watched this installment, it became clear to me that the entire Harry Potter series is an extended metaphor that tell us about a boy with severe mental illness, suffering from delusions. Everything depicted in the movie can be interpreted as a recitation (from his delusional perspective) of his attempts to cope with the harsh realities of his confinement in a mental institution.Every major event in the books is a fantasy/delusional version of the experiences that a child would encounter in the course of being institutionalized and forcibly treated for mental illness.…

Three things that he uses to show his feelings and judge the movie are the anticipation of the next book and the length of the movie, the acting of the characters and their real life situations, and lastly the fact of the movie being a good place for new potential actors. my favourite movie

My friend and I wanted to see “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” the day it opened, and we did. The film matched up to my expectations. I have ever seen a lot of movies but i think this one was awesome. This film was as good as it gets, I mean no film is likely to surpass this one. It seems to me that there were a few parts of the movie were not very good, but on the whole I enjoyed it very much. The movie was based on a best selling novel, written by British author J. K. Rowling. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have played Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in all the films. The series is about the adventures of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The main story concerns Harry's quest to overcome the Dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who aims to become immortal, conquer the wizarding world and destroy all those who stand in his way, especially Harry Potter. In this final episode, Harry, Hermione and Ron continue their battle to find and destroy the "horcruxes" that Voldemort needs so he can stay alive for all eternity. Harry and his friends continue to battle the forces of Voldemort, but it hasn't been easy. And after all they were crowned with victory. I can’t imagine the special effects that were used in the film is so bizarre, surreal and macabre. In my opinion to have a good movie, so we must have good director, famous and wonderful artist and perfect substance. That are three factors to build a great movie. This film made a deep impression on me. I have seen this film so many times but I enjoyed seeing it again.…
