Luna Hall was originally built in the time of 1918 and named Luna Natatorium in honor of Lieutenant Antonio J. Luna. The class of 1914 building housed the first indoor swimming pool of West Mississippi River in 1918.The transition from a natatorium to a museum began in 1980.The big building became the McBride Museum in the era and building was again renovated to house Admissions and Financial Aid, the NMMI Alumni Association and the NMMI Foundation. I like Luna Hall it made me a better person. The McBride Museum is now housed on the second story. The Luna Hall building was known as the Enrollment and Development Center from 2006 the Fall of 2009. Also visitors of The Luna Hall may not know and realize they are sitting directly over…
The two Democratic nominees have narrowed down to Hillary Clinton, former secretary of state and, Bernie Sanders, junior United States senator of Vermont, who fascinatingly enough, isn’t exactly a Democrat. He interchangeably identifies himself as an independent, a socialist, or an independent socialist. The two candidates share numerous viewpoints on certain policies, but the more one observes the more evident it becomes of their different positions and goals as candidates. While Hilary comes off as more traditional, cautious with her word choices, and some may say even say vague; Sanders is more to the point, straight forward.…
Composers use elements and characteristics of language to create voice in their texts to shape meaning and affect interpretation of the audience. This is demonstrated by the composers of the following texts; “The life and Crimes of Harry Lavender” composed by Marele Day, the 2010 film “never Let Me Go” directed by Richard Eyre and the novel “Wuthering Heights” composed by Emily Bronte…
John O’Donohue once said: “To be human is to belong. Belonging is a circle that embraces everything; if we reject it, we damage our nature. Belonging is deep; only in a sense does it refer to our external attachment to people, places and things. It is the living and passionate presence of the soul. When we deny it, we grow cold and empty”…
The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender undermines many of the stereotypes within the genre of crime fiction. Marlene Days’ prominent themes are introduced in the extract. Power is characterised particularly through the antagonist, Sydney underworld figure Harry Lavender. Day also portrays the idea of deception and façade through her rendering of the duality of the city of Sydney and the characters within it. Days’ setting of the late 1980s conveys an era where new technology is seen and an ominent threat and a useful tool. These themes are represented in the extract and a novel as a whole.…
Food is a physical necessity of life. However, it can also symbolize other human desires, and reveal truths about society and power. In this essay, I will examine the role of food in, Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” and J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”.…
As you all know, even a visual tells a story. However, characters in a text through distinctive voices demonstrate their personalities which contribute to an insightful understanding of the text.…
As I drive up to the Stone Center, I notice there were people and children already here. When I walk inside the Stone Center, there were Halloween decorates all over the place. The tables were cover with a black cloth, orange Halloween bucket filled with crayon for the children, and Halloween coloring books on the tables. Don't get me start on the food. The smell of the delicious food reminds me of my mother homecooked meal and the cupcakes look beautiful with orange frosting and colorful, Halloween sprinkler on top of it. As people started coming in, I got to worry that we didn't have enough chairs as so many people there was.…
Archetypes have been here as about as long as the stories about gods and heroes. Archetypes are themes that have been used for several thousand generations. They are what shape modern film and literature today. Many movies and literature today are based on archetypes. While watching the film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I noticed that it has the archetypes of the unhealable wound, the initiate, and good vs. evil. Every hero has a weakness.…
Harry potter is a magical tale that captivates the reader’s heart and mind within the first few chapters of opening its pages. The story is relatable even in a magical castle of Hogwarts with wizards and witches. Who wouldn’t want to read a series where your imagination can run wild and free? Many say there is no real important meaning to Harry Potter, that it is like every other book but there is meaning and there is a difference. They are stories that enchant you to keep reading, stories that teach realistic problems found in lives of teens, and stories that applies to every age for over the next few generations. Harry Potter books should probably be the greatest series of this era for its unforgettably well written writing.…
“Happiness can be found in the most darkest of places, if only one remembers to turn on the light.” - Albus Dumbledore. (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban). The most dynamic series of books and movies of all time is Harry Potter. I, like many other students, am taking both high school and college classes at the same time. In doing so I have a lot of homework. The one book I have found that I and many others read in the very little spare time we have, is Harry Potter.…
According to Foster, meals in literature help to convey the atmosphere of the situation and the emotions between the diners. A meal shared among people tends to show their relationship and level of comfort with one another ( how well they get along). Foster’s ideas can be applied to the first feast in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. In this scene, all of the students are sat at long wooden tables, dining on many delicious foods. The students talk amongst each other and they all seem to be happy to be there. This creates a joyus atmosphere and shows that they are beginning to become friends.…
Over the course of Harry Potter’s six years attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, six different people filled the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position. Hogwarts finds this position very hard to fill. Some people believe someone cursed the Defense position and this fact leadest them to stay away from teaching. The supposed curse that hangs over the position causes major problems for the school.…
Although she writes under the pen name "J. K. Rowling" her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply "Joanne Rowling". Her publisher Bloomsbury feared that the target audience of young boys might be reluctant to buy books written by a female author, and requested that she use two initials, rather than reveal her first name.…
After the party was over the noise was tremendously loud everybody was walking on top of each other like alligators on top of each other fighting over a fish. The walkthrough was full of foots steps chasing each other one after the other. Mr. Capulet was waiving to everyone and saying thank you for coming with most devilish smile I've ever seen with his polish sword in the side of him waiting to strike like a furious tiger waiting to hunt down his prey. Lady Capulet gossiping with the nurse, but the nurse was not really paying attention to her she looked exhausted and tire and she looked at me with flirting eyes that made a young man blush.…
