Lew announced the most sweeping and historically symbolic makeover of American currency of the century. He proposed to replace the slaveholding Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with Harriet Tubman. Mr. Lew also proposed adding women and civil rights leaders to the $5, and the $10 note as well. Harriet Tubman was a bondwoman who escaped from the south to become an abolitionist. She helped freed hundreds of slaves through the Underground Railroad during the 1800s. Calmes expressed her view on how the American currency hasn't undergo someone as major as that. The last currency chaned was 1929 and because of that, she feels that with more standard designs and smaller size, that could "Save costs." Dozens of women around the United States including actors, feminists, executives and more feels that this will be "a major advancement of women." writes Calmes. The feel that it would be a great metaphoric situation. This article spoke to me not only because I'm a woman, but because it seems that people are finally giving credit where credit is due. I feel like women deserves to be recognize more aroung the world. We do so much more than we're credited for. Throughout American history, you read about what those women did for America.
