I t’s an intense tug a war between the North and the South. Both wanting to prove that they are stronger and that their side is right. So much tension between them, someone can practically cut it with a knife. The North and the South have been at each other’s throats for a long time. This bad blood between the North and South has been going on for a long time. This whole controversy came into existence because of Lincoln’s election. The Republicans elected Lincoln as their presidential candidate around the year 1860. The feud happened right in their home country, the United States. This has developed because the North and South couldn’t get along on just one topic, and that topic is slavery. Therefore, the southern states seceded because the …show more content…
In 1852, Harriet wrote a book to prove the evils of slavery and the Fugitive Slave Law was biased, this was only helping the South not the North (Packet Document 4). At the same time, the South had something to say about this. Southerners accused that this book is inaccurate information (Textbook). Southerners say that the book doesn’t explain what really explain what truly happens in the South (Textbook). This book offends the southerners because the book doesn't talk about the real lives of the slaves. Those who disagree with him and his point of view, joined the seceding states. Those who disagreed were the South. The south were devastated that Lincoln was the new president. They thought that the south had no voice in the national government (textbook). They were convinced that Lincoln and the congress are agreed on the topic of slavery ( textbook). Therefore, southern states came into conclusion that they didn't want to stay with a Republican president that is an abolitionist. However, Lincoln never stated that he didn't support slavery. People assumed that because of what he says in his speeches. Soon enough, southern states started seceding. South Carolina was the first to secede from the Union ( Packet Document 5). Later on, 7 other states such as Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas has seceded (Packet Document 5). Although, the national government state that all states are independent ( Packet Document 5). So all those states have the full right to secede and no one can tell them
