Hard Work Vacation Analysis
Depending on one’s geographic location and personal economic status, vacations are often regarded as the expected result of hard work or productivity. They typically act as a temporary pause on the stressors or difficult components of life and allow time for either relaxation or adventure. Despite this commonly held understanding, not all countries maintain such a positive opinion. Rather than a blissful escape from monotony, they instead view vacations as nothing more than a pitiful waste of time, energy, and critical resources. The benefits of taking time away from work focus heavily on the health and mentality of the individual worker. Overexertion and exhaustion can be incredibly damaging to one’s physical and mental wellbeing, often resulting in ailments such as headaches, anxiety, fatigue, and even depression (Stöppler). Vacations allow for a momentary escape from daily pressures, resulting in an elevated emotional status, lower blood pressure, and less depression. This increase in personal happiness may lead in an increase in both creativity and productivity as one is allowed to refresh their minds and rest (Blank). Though I can understand the points made when considering the overall economic standpoint, I feel the wellbeing of the worker outweighs the overall profit. Even without personal opinion, the arguments made regarding the disadvantages of paid vacations seemed to be incredibly contradicting and struggled to come to a valid conclusion. When attempting to research this topic outside of the article provided, I had an incredibly difficult time finding one that didn’t favor the benefits side of the argument. This opinion is obviously biased, however, because I and those close to me are the ones wishing for compensated vacation time, not those having to pay for
