Happy Birthday History!
Throughout history, on my birthday, June 12th, there have been many turning points that have altered the course of events. Such turning points include; Jon of Arc leading the French army in attacks that changed the progression of the Hundred Year’s War in 1429, Anne Frank receiving her famed diary on her 13th birthday in 1942, and President Reagan requesting President Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall. Although there were many events to choose from, I chose these three for the following reasons. Joan of Arc believed that God was giving her visions and that she needed to help with the Hundred Year’s War that was occurring at the time. Subsequently she was a woman, so, she dressed like a man in order to go to war. Following this, Joan led the French army in many attacks that reversed the path of the war. For an elongated time, the path of the war had been tipping back and forth until Joan stepped in and had an astounding week of glory at Orleans. After the war, Joan was discovered and burned at the steak. Years following her spectacles of strength and bravery, individuals began to accept the fact that a female can be a benefit rather than an obligation. Joan of Arc was later declared a saint.
On June 12th, 1929, Anne Frank was born in Germany. At only four years old, Anne and her family had to flee to the Netherlands due to Nazi invasion. Nine years later, Anne received a red checked diary for her 13th birthday while living in Prisengracht. The family was in hiding above an old store in a very small dwelling. After Anne acquired the diary, she began to write about daily life in hiding and what was happing in Europe at the time. Her first entry, June 12th 1942, includes the following: “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.” Without Anne’s words and descriptions, we might not have known how dangerous life was being in hiding during the
