Hal And Rikki's Short Stories
The details of this story are absolutely stunning, I love the details of the whole piece, it kept me going. This story truly felt like an old storyteller was telling me this over a fire. The beginning truly drew me in with it’s beautiful language and descriptions, which was very lovely. The setting that was set in almost had a dreamlike quality, which was very cool especially when he first met the woman on page five, but it didn’t feel strange that he wasn’t concerned with her injuries, how you wrote it fit very well. The short conversations that occurred in reality felt truly natural, even in the dream and reality the dialogue was spot on and well done. I also enjoyed how you describe sound in this piece, the tinkling of bells to describe Hal’s mother’s voice and the crunching of snow to describe children ghosts’ voice. Such a difference compared to the usual easy way of using the senses. …show more content…
For I was little confused because after Hal and Rikki left their father, the present tense continued to be the same. Though it no longer was as smooth as before and it kind of held me back from the rest of the story. It at times will jump back and forth between present and past tense, which side is it? Not only that, but the dream like quality was a little annoying as well it frustrated me at times because it felt too fantastical at times because it had been so well set in reality, it became disconcerting when he went into this dream, or alternative dimension.
