HIV OUTBREAK: THE USE OF PROTECTION
IN THE ADULT ENTERTAINMENT
INDUSTRY
‘The porn films are not about sex. Sex is airbrushed and digitally washed out of the films...Pornography is about getting yourself off at someone else’s expense.’ (Chris Hedges)
Sexuality is a fundamental and essential part of our humanity (IPPF, 2008). Porn however, is not.
The adult entertainment industry aims to meet the fantasies and desires of those who consume it. In order to create these fantasies, health measures taken in reality to prevent diseases are rarely used, as many think using a ‘condom is gross, because it suggests that the girl might have a disease, and the idea that the girl might have a disease is a

Is it really wrong if people want to work in this industry? No, it pays well and there is huge demand for it. As long as the industry does not look to exploit individuals and knowingly put them at risk for their own gains then it is acceptable. Free will plays a part here, in that everyone has a right to make their own decisions however, in some cases where individuals aren’t in a position to make these decisions may be where authority have the right to intervene. As with many labour intensive jobs there are risks associated and it is the industries responsibility limit these. Some sort of insurance policy should be offered to those who contract HIV on set. More meticulous testing should be in place which tests performers twice a month charging those who pass on the disease as it is wrong to inflict poor personal decisions onto others when they have been cautious. Not only does this protect performers and their colleagues it encourages individuals to be more aware of protective …show more content…

What is the difference between an action and a porn movie? They are both something you can rent, buy , watch , they both come in the same video formats. Thus the key difference that deferentiates pornography is its content – sex. Sex is something that is absolutely normal , and actually is the main drive behind the human evolution. Human beings are aware that except for reproduction, sex is also something that brings pleasure and is one of the basic human needs. Than what defines a pornographic movie is that first of all it is a movie(its format) and second of all it has content (sex). Therefore if movies are morally accepted in the society, and sex itself is also a normal event between two(or more) human beings , combining two “moral” statements should bring us a conclusion that pornography is moral. Pornography is a product of choice. The increased demand for pornographic movies is picturing quite vividly that people choose to watch porn on their own will, and thus there is nothing immoral in it. Pornography as a job is also usually a personal choice and thus in the whole process of creating an adult movie all the parties are willingly consenting to participate , which again is not immoral because every person is entitled to the right of his or her own body.…

When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…

There exists in our society a publicized and politicized concern, perhaps an over-concern, regarding the sexual desires, behaviors, and experiences of the people living in it. While this nation’s media is saturated with explicit marketing campaigns and sexual innuendo, there is a catch. The messages flashed before us every day say: Sex Sells, Be Sexy, Be Feminine Females, Be Masculine Males, Wear Your Sex Well . . . as long as it is normal sex—natural sex. What is natural sex? Heterosexual sex—defined as the union between penis and vagina—and it is the only form of natural sex. Says who? Look around.…

In the past 10 years, there has been an enormous stride put forth in trying to detect, prevent, and treat HIV/AIDS. In spite of these efforts there are still economic, political, scientific, and social barriers that remain. Worldwide there has been about 60 million individuals who has become infected with HIV/AIDS in last two decades after the HIV/AIDS epidemic began, plus 20 million who are already deceased. About 45.5% of the adult population consist of women living with HIV/AIDS with an excessively amount of young individuals bearing the burden of the widespread disease. There is a portion of these women who have an open door to antiretroviral treatment, which is provided through intervention and prevention programs. Unfortunately, there is a huge portion of women and girls infected and are not receiving treatment, mainly because they are not aware of being infected (The Kaiser Family Foundation, n.d.).…

HIV is a disease that has affected millions of people worldwide. From the wealthy to the poor, this virus has had devastating effects on the lives of families and individuals. According to the AIDS Institute, HIV was first discovered in a patient from West Africa. It is believed that chimpanzees carried the “simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)” which transferred to humans when they came into contact with the infected animals’ blood after the animal had been caught while hunting. SIV then developed into HIV once in the human blood stream. HIV “has existed in the United States since at least the mid- to late 1970s.” (AI, n.d.) There is no cure for the virus.…

Many social ills related to this illegal profession involve activities that lead to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and infections (Rich par. 6). Some of these are fatal including syphilis, gonorrhea, and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) (Harry par. 7). Inevitably, more agents (sellers and buyers) would enter the market, and many would neglect to use protection therefore increasing the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases (Harry par. 7). The fact that prostitutes consummate with numerous partners does not help prevent these sexually transmitted diseases (Rich par. 6). Even condoms do not provide one hundred percent protection (Rich par. 6). The more sexual partners an individual possess, the higher the probability becomes that he or she may contract a sexually transmitted disease, possibly transmitting it to future partners (Rich par. 6). Although advocates of legalizing and regulating prostitution…
