Gunsmiths: Compound Technique In 1911
Since World War II, Gunsmiths have; repaired, engraved and customized the amazing world -wide known Colt Model 1911 .45 semi-automatic pistol. Gunsmiths have been able to produce very precise 1911 pistols for Bullseye competitions. This is an art of delivering a pistol with superior performance through a ton of attention to detail. As a future Gunsmith, I know that even the least significant detail matters. This level of precision requires using superior components, as accuracy is the critical component of all firearms.
In this course I, learned that accurizing, is a process of creating not only a more precise, but also a more comfortable weapon for shooters. Accurizing the Colt 1911 can be achieved through several methods. Of all the weapons

Every shooter knows that the central component of any weapon is the barrel. Although, the factory pistol has a good barrel, it’s not as precise as a premium barrel that’s custom fitted. A factory barrel is also non-ramped, which will cause feeding and reliability problems specifically with hollow-points or wad-cutters. A gunsmith can customize a 1911 with a ramped barrel.
These more precise barrels are made with an integrated feed-ramp, that requires; extra trimming of the frame for the ramp and special hand fitting. Hand-fitting the precision barrel to the frame will require hours and maybe even days depending on tools used. While customizing the barrel the Gunsmith will need to install a new bushing as this will ensure greater barrel harmonics. Combining these two will produce a better spin of the projectile. Since a bushing is designed with very tight tolerances, it needs to be fitted to handle the new

When installing the trigger, it’s important to have a proper grip as the combination will offer increased comfort and accuracy. One of the most important parts on the 1911 that I, believe will need the most accurizing is not just the trigger, but the hoods and lugs on the barrel. Since match grade barrels often have long hoods which offer proper fitting to the slide. The hoods are wider than the recess in the slide.
My understanding is that this may require the Gunsmith to use files to shorten the hoods, after measuring the breech face and finding out how much the barrel is overlapping. I, believe that this can be accomplished by using a gauge pin measurement as well as measuring the barrel overlapping area. I, will need to know the controlled dimension of the breech-face opening and deduct the measurement of the excess hood length. This will keep the barrel in place and prevents it from moving side to side. To conduct removal of the excess, I have seen both a file as well as milling

The M16 Assault rifle came into service in 1962 to replace the M1 Garand and other types of single automatic rifle. The M16 has a direct gas impingement system, meaning, after the firing pin hits the the primer and the bullet is sent down the barrel, propellent gas builds up behind the bullet and then is siphoned into the gas tube and sent back to the bolt carrier. After the bullet is shot the bolt moves back and and compresses the buffer spring as small as it can and then picks up the next bullet. Empty, the M16 weighs about 6 pounds, roughly 39 inches long. It can roughly shoot about 650-750 rounds per minute. With a sight that extends to 500m the most effective shot at the farthest distance would be around 460m. The M16 is made from 7075 T6 aluminum alloy, and the barrel is made from 4051 Chrome-moly steel. The M16 There are 4 different model types of the M16; M16, M16A1, M16A2, and the M16A3. The difference of these guns are very minimal, with the big differences being only cosmetic. Many different accessories can be mounted to a M16, like a grenade launcher, a shotgun attachment, flame thrower and many more.…

The Model 1887, not as popular with the hunters, gave the bad guys of the west an advantage. The 1887 had a magazine capacity of six shots, four more than the overly popular double barrel. The "six shooter" was available in a 10-gauge and 12-gauge black powder shotgun. Production ran for fourteen years and just under 65,000 shotguns were produced. This guns standard barrel lengths came in thirty inches, thirty-two inches, and a special "riot gun" was offered in a twenty inch barrel (Silva).…

On February 19, 2017, 60 Minutes aired the interview of Lesley Stahl, an American television journalist with Robert Chaffin, an attorney for Jasmine Thar who died from a faulty gun. Add a sentence here. He claimed, that Remington has so many 700 models on the market that it is impossible to recall them all back. Specifically he claimed that Remington will never admit that their products are faulty. As the interviewee said, “You cannot admit wrongdoing when you have seven million of these things on the market.” Although some people believe that it is impossible for a gun to go off without a trigger being pulled, Chaffin insists that the faulty Walker trigger in 1994 caused deaths and accidents which resulted in 150 lawsuits based on the gun…

For example, the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 has magazine capacity of 17 rounds, plus one in the chamber, while the Smith & Wesson M&P .45 can only hold 10 rounds, plus one in the chamber. The substantial difference is due to the smaller size of the 9mm round, allowing more ammunition in a magazine. Many 9mm magazines are even double-stacked, one round sitting adjacent from another, while the .45 ACP magazines are more often single-stacked, one round sitting directly on top of another. In order for the .45 ACP to carry the same number of rounds as the 9mm, manufacturers would have to create larger magazines and larger grips to accommodate them, which would affect the ergonomics of the firearm itself. In addition, the larger size of the .45 ACP causes the weapon, with a high capacity magazine, to weigh more.…

One of the great things about having a well-made shotgun is that they are not very expensive and will usually last you a long time. They are very easy to take care of and you can put many rounds threw them before they need to be cleaned. When you do need to clean them, it is very simple because a shotgun does not have a lot of working parts. So, it is very easy to get a cleaning tool in all parts. A couple of down falls to a shotgun is that your range is minimized to how far you can actually shoot accurately and kill game, (you can shoot slugs threw them around 100 yards, but there are not always accurate and when harvesting game you always want a clean kill). So the typical ammo is bird shot or steel shot, shooting birds from ten yards all the way up to forty yards.…

I have to load a weapon? Oh no! Let’s see, first I have to get my cartridge out of the box. I really hate the taste of gunpowder in my mouth when I rip open the cartridge with my teeth. Then I have to pour that powder into the barrel of the gun. What next? Remove the rammer, ram the barrel to set the ammo, and then return the rammer. Then to prime the gun, I have to set my cap, and now I can finally fire a single shot. Am I really expected to remember to do all these steps, for every shot, while at the same time people are shooting at me? What about all the smoke and noise? The noise of the guns and people next to me screaming in pain, or breathing their last breath.…

Cavalry is defined as "soldiers who fought on horseback" ("Dictionary"). Both armies looked for guns that would be easy to reload on horseback. The reason soldiers would not use infantry weapons is because it was awkward to use a long barrel, it was also difficult to reload bullets through the muzzle of the gun. Even though soldiers usually did not use infantry weapons, Confederate soldiers used sawed off shotguns and hunting rifles, which decreased the accuracy of each shot. A newer revolver known as the Lefauchaux was used by several Federal generals as well as Confederate generals. Many soldiers used a new percussion revolver that had 5-6 chambers for bullets. The revolvers used rotating cylinders to allow multiple shots without reloading. Though it was a great weapon for cavalry, it had very poor sights so soldiers could not hit people beyond "50 paces". Other than using percussion revolvers as well as regular revolvers, both armies used a single-shot barreled weapon called a carbine. The carbines that the Union and Confederacy used were several inches shorter than rifle muskets that infantry used. However due to the shorter barrel, it had a shorter range. Another Confederate revolver known as the LeMat had 9 pistol chambers and was considered to be easy to carry and load. However, it did not have as much power as similar guns, which made it less effective. Confederate…
