Guns Shouldn't Be Used My Everybody
February 23, 2013

Guns Should Be Used By Licensed Owners Only On December 14, 2012 twenty six people- 20 students and six adults- were shot and killed at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. The classes were under way at the school and approximately 700 students were present. Earlier that year, the school principal ordered a new security system installed that requires visitors to be visibly identified and buzzed in. As part of the system, the school locked its doors each day at 9:30 a.m. When the gunman arrived, the door was looked and literally shot an entrance into the building. The school psychologist Mary Sherlach and vice principal Natalie Hammond went out to investigate and only Hammond returned from the hallway alive but wounded. At around 9:35 a.m., announcements were read over the loudspeaker to the students, and shots were heard across the school. Students described being rushed into bathrooms and closets by teachers after hearing the first shots. In one classroom was Lauren Rosseau, a substitute teacher who was filling in for a teacher on maternity leave, the gunman shot all 14 students in the classroom. In another classroom was Victoria Soto who moved her first-grade students away from the door and the gunman burst in and shot her, according to the father of a surviving student, six children were killed in that classroom. Dispatchers from the police station began to take calls from inside the school at approximately 9:40 a.m. and police arrived on scene about 20 minutes after the first calls. Police reported that no law enforcement officers discharged their weapons at any point. The gunman killed himself. He took out a handgun and shot himself in a classroom as law enforcement officers approached. Twenty students, ages 6 and 8, and six adults were killed at the school. I think people shouldn’t be able to use a gun because some people don’t know how to handle one and use them at appropriate times3 Even though in

On December 14, 2012 there was a mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut where 20 students and six educators were killed. The shooter was said to be armed with a “military-style rifle and two handguns”("Connecticut school shooting:," 2012) . This shooting along with many more in the past have brought about the topic of gun control. The Newtown shooting of course instilled fear in parents, for 20 innocent children were killed, and they will fight for stricter gun control laws.…

If you never heard of this horrible event took it place on December 14th, when armed gunman Adam Lanza allegedly shot and killed twenty-six people , twenty of which were innocent children kindergarten to first grade and six teachers. Police also say that Adam was thought to have killed his mother before even entering this school. Sandy Hook is a well populated school with approximately 700 students. The school has a security system in which you have to be buzzed into the school, but apparently this wasn’t enough. The gunman forced entry, shooting out the locked door upon entrance, the door was shot out with an “assault rifle” such as a bushmaster rifle. Also the other guns found on the scene of the crime were a glock handgun and also sig-sauer handgun.(Sandy Hook shooting: What happened?). Now this is where it starts to get interesting. Some places you look for information on this topic you have multiple versions like any other story, but in my opinion the stories are more and more twisted even as time goes on, but your opinion is all that matters, and with that being said there are two videos I do believe you should watch.…

Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, and the University of Texas at Austin were some of the most televised and the deadliest school shootings that have ever occurred in the United States. Since 1992, there have been over 387 school shootings which are way too many for the United States which poses the question, why did these tragedies happen in the first place? If we had armed security guards or a military/police presence at our institutions of development and higher learning would these tragedies have been prevented or could there have been less loss of life? The answer is that having an armed guard would not have prevented these attacks from individuals whose entire intention was to commit murder. Look at Columbine and…

The issue at hand here is “Is There Support for Arming Teachers in Schools?” This issue is argued by both Nirvi Shah, and The National School Safety and Security Services organization. Nirvi Shah believes yes there is support for arming teachers in schools, while The National School Safety and Security Services organization believes no there isn’t. Shah believes yes because there are already teachers who are armed in some districts. Shah’s argument is basically that the law passed in Utah has caused school shootings to end in Utah. Shah interviewed Mr. Dorn, the Georgia school safety consultant and Mr. Dorn stated “Sandy Hook didn’t look anything like Columbine. Columbine didn’t look like Pearl, Miss.,” Shah states that “Ms. Sorenson, a 13-year teaching veteran, is among those bolstered by the fact that there haven’t been school shootings in Utah since the law changed.”…

After the shooting in Newton, Connecticut, there are some new laws that the nation is facing. The president is springing into action and trying to do everything he can to prevent future events like this from occurring. The debate now is which weapons they are going to try to ban. Military style Assault rifles are the main focus right now. People in favor of gun laws Gun-rights groups are stating that this infringes on people’s rights to protect themselves from criminals with guns. The NRA is suggesting that gun laws are not the answer, but armed security guards in every school would be more effective.…

On December 14, 2012 an intruder walked into Sandy Hook Elementary and took over 20 lives of students and teachers. If there was a Public Safety Officer at the school more than likely there wouldn't have been a big shooting. Gun owners should be able to carry concealed weapons in certain locations in order to deter potential acts of violence, provide immediate response before public safety is able to arrive, and because the 2nd amendment guarantees citizens the right to bear arms.…

Truth be told, they should all be noticed as equal threats. When these shootings appear on the news, what kind of shootings are they? Are they Muslims shooting at our citizens of the United States? Probably. But citizens of our country, people who have lived here from birth, decide they can take the lives of our own people. Students who participate in school events with their peers can easily take their lives from them with ease. As of 2013, there have been 161 shootings reported in or near schools, according to the article “161 School Shootings In America Since 2013” (2015). People all over the United States are afraid of terrorism. It’s common nowadays since the constant threats we have on our nation. But, there are kids who take weapons to school that could easily result in people being severely hurt or killed. It’s the same thing, domestic terrorism. A recent report by the article “Urban Institute” reported that there were over 336 gunshots near schools in the Washington D.C. school district. A school shooting most people heard about occurred before the 2013 mark, the shooting of Sandy Hook Elementary school. There were 26 people dead at the scene (CNN, 2015). Nearly thirty people had their lives taken away from one of our own American citizens, what did the press and the people do about this? Not much from what most of us have seen. There may be more laws on weapons in and around schools, but there is obviously an ongoing problem. This should…

A bipartisan group of senators is trying to fashion a plan, and, in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday, President Obama is expected to make another pitch for expanded background checks. Change is needed because federal law requires the instant checks only for guns bought from federally licensed firearms dealers. Private transactions at gun shows, garage sales and other venues aren't covered. That gives anyone who couldn't pass a background check plenty of options for getting firearms. The NRA and other gun groups offer deliberate misrepresentations and specious arguments to try to kill…

Recently in the United States, Congress has had the hot topic of banning assault weapons, creating new policies banning high capacity magazines and improving methods for Americans buying guns through the Feinstein assault weapons legislation. This legislation has sparked many issues with the American people that abide by the laws in the way they use and buy their guns. Americans and representatives that are pro-gun are against the legislation to ban semi-automatic weapons. Within the past month senate Democrats have removed the plan to ban assault weapons from the pending gun- control legislation. This is to focus more on the politically acceptable use of universal background checks. These universal background checks would be enforced to possibly stop the people that are not qualified to buy a gun and would hopefully make America a safer place. The issue here is the federal government already has checks in place, but it is said they do not enforce the ones that already exist. Since this legislation has been brought to Congress some states have taken responsibility and have passed laws on their own. This research paper will look more into the plan of this legislation, providing a thorough discussion and analysis of the topic. I will share how our Second Amendment rights came to be and some cases that helped improve them. I will be giving factual statistics showing that banning assault weapons in the United States would not necessarily decrease gun crimes and the assault rifle that Congress has tried to ban is not the biggest problem using an updated assessment of the 1994 assault weapons ban which lasted until 2003. Even though the bill was not able to pass the banning of assault rifles the Feinstein legislation still has many proposed plans within the bill that will be brought up in Congress.…

As we take a look at the way gun control advocates are planning on enforcing gun control, you may start to even question why we would even contemplate using such tedious means. The idea that limiting the size of a magazine or regulating the type of gun you can purchase or even doing something as simple as a background check will stop murders like the Connecticut shooting from happening is ridiculous. In Making Gun Control Happen the author, Patrick Radden Keefe, writes as an advocate to gun control. He indicates that one blatantly obvious change would be to “mandate a criminal background check for all gun purchases” as it would obviously stop criminals from getting their hands on a weapon (Keefe). It takes brains to live the life of a criminal; many of them most likely have weaseled their way out of the database and would therefore be able to buy a gun anyway. The idea of using a background check as the main means to sort out the good people from the bad people is a magnificent…

    How Far Is Too Far

In 2012 there were eight major public shootings, and since Columbine occurred in April 1999, 28 public shootings have occurred. The rate of people who have succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds in public areas has increased to 19.5 times higher than those of similar income countries, and there have been at least 61 mass murders since 1982 (Shen, Timeline of Mass Shootings). Whenever any type of mass murder occurs, the same question always remains; what is the motive? How could someone commit such a crime against innocent civilians? More often than not, it is due to some sort of happenstance in the killer’s life. For some it is family life, and for others it may be close friends or colleagues that have created the issue. Whatever reason it may be, it sends the killer over the edge and past their breaking point.…

    Argumentation Paragraph

All schools should have several armed and trained staff members to ensure student safety in case of a shooting. Some schools already have some type of security; however, these people are not armed to handle a shooting. The first reason schools should have armed personnel is to protect our students and faculty from these critical situations. Since 2010, there have been 34 school shootings in the U.S. The most recent massacre took place on December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Twenty-eight people were murdered. Amongst them were 20 first grade students. Innocent people are killed and no one can do anything until police arrive. Another reason is it will also give students and faculty members a sense of security while on campus. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. If the criminals know that the schools have these armed members, they might think twice before committing a serious act of violence. One objection might be that there are limited funds as it is for schools and their budgets would not support it. However, if they would use staff members already employed by the schools, the cost would be minimal. Another objection might be that firearms should not be allowed on school property for security reasons. I think the benefits of this would heavily outweigh the risks associated. These tragedies can be avoided or at least controlled to eliminate most deaths and injuries. We need to start protecting our children and our…

Teachers should be allowed to carry a gun at school in case of emergencies such as terrorist attacks, hostile situations, A.L.I.C.E, and many other reasons. This issue could be supported by what took place on December 14, 2012 which is known as the Sandy Hook Massacre, in which 28 people were killed, including 20 children from inside the school. This horrible event is a prime example of why teachers should be allowed to carry guns. In their situation they were defenseless and sitting ducks as the shooter strolled through the school firing off rounds. Following the shooting at least five states including, Oklahoma, Missouri, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Oregon have made plans for legislation that would allow faculty members to carry guns in school. There are many reasons why teachers should carry guns but the most recently important reason is the Sandy Hook Massacre. The second most worst massacre in U.S. history could have been put to earlier stop if the teachers were allowed to carry guns during school hours.…

By arming teachers or the staff that helps to support schools will only increase the level of liability in schools. Kenneth S. Trump, President of National School Safety and Security Services said "School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators," it is short-sighted for those supporting the idea to believe that educators who enter a profession to teach and serve a supportive, nurturing role with children could abruptly kick into the mindset to kill someone in a second's notice. Police and military personal train their entire career for these kind of situations. They are trained and placed into situations that require them to be in the mindset that they may have to take a life. This is the opposite of the caring role of a teacher.…

Over the past couple of decades there have been some unpleasant and dreadful episodes that have happened in schools across America. The harming of innocent children learning in school while mass murderers enter onto school property undetected is a darn shame. Since the tragic incident at Sandy Hook Elementary in New Town, Connecticut recently it has put school districts across the Country on alert to protect students. There are some states permitting teachers to carry a gun with a concealed weapons permit. This puts me in a panic and could very well create a larger scale of danger. Guns in our schools seem to invite more conflict and even more reason to take more precaution, so teachers should not be allowed to carry guns in school.…
