He makes movies that usually have a very energetic, profanity filled, and an arrogant protagonist. Although Scorcese has a lot of critics he is nominated for an Oscar every single time he makes a movie which is why he is arguably the greatest filmmaker of all time. A man who is just starting to get known in the filmmaking industry is Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Inarritu was born in Mexico and has brought his own experiences into his movies. The thing that makes Inarritu so great and original is his cinematography skills. Inarritu is the epitome of a great cinematographer. For example his most recent movie “The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” is made to make you think it is a two-hour continuous shot. Robert Rodriguez’s first film, El Mariachi, is a cult classic to many and the first of a long line of other successful movies for this talented director. El Mariachi captured the attention of many with its large amount of violence and shockingly low budget. With a dirt cheap budget and a first time director, this film did not have high expectations, yet it provided an entertaining story that showed the evolution of a young mariachi player. Machete, the most recent film made by Robert Rodriguez in 2010 is an action packed experience that can only be described as epic. There are few similarities between El Mariachi and Machete and it is obvious that Rodriguez’s directing has become very “Hollywood” and no longer resembles his original work.…

Unlike other blissfully enchanted film genres, this evocative fairytale becomes a surreal escape into the work of Guillermo Del Toro. This chilling story confines make believe verses reality through the eyes of a young girl. Two worlds are represented within Pan’s Labyrinth, a cold hard fascist regime in Spain, and a captivating fantasyland both conveyed through visual story telling. The striking surrealism of the fantasy world becomes reflections in reality, providing small visual cues that increase as the story unfolds, unveiling a grim interaction between Ophelia and the new world she has encountered. The style becomes the narrative within the film, and the use of mise-en-scene assists the films explicit meaning, by providing connections between the merging worlds. Del Toro uses standard and non-standard approaches in film, which speaks to the audience either intentionally or through the sub conscious, so the contrast of reality and imagination is rendered. The style throughout Pan’s Labyrinth is essential for creating dramatic dynamic throughout the film; the attention to detail becomes a fierce component to mise-en-scene, and harasses symbolism.…

Vampires Never Die is the title of the essay written by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, but it is also a statement that is true in multiple ways. Earlier in history people heard tales of them or read books were they encountered vampires, nowadays they will visit you on your TV- screen, in books, magazines, movies and etc.; they are everywhere to be found. First and foremost we all know vampires are immortal, it is a big part of their allure.
